OK so I got my 360 Premium pack, and a VGA cable.
I checked my old Xbox games to see which ones will work with the 360, using
the standard cable that came with the premium pack.
I hooked up the 360 to my projector, which has a VGA input, and found that
apart from Crimson Skies, they all throw up an error message;- " This game
will not work with your current display settings, go to console and change
them " ( well something like that )
Whatever I set the VGA resolution to, the games won't run.
Pukka 360 games run very well, and look great; but I'm sick as a parrot
about the old XBox games.
Anyone else get this? and know of a workaround? The only way I can get the
older games to run is using an S-video cable to the projector, losing a lot
of the VGA clarity.

Sadly it is right. Many of the BC games will not work with a VGA cable.

"Many PAL XBox games ran at 50Hz. VGA works on 60Hz, and the emulation
system hasn't accounted for the difference. Use a VGA cable with most
PAL games and you get thrown back to the dashboard when you try to start
a game."

Well that's interesting. Every BC game I'm tried has had stuttering video
in PAL-50 which is fixed by using PAL-60. I assumed that BC was only
supposed to work at 60Hz?

It is true that many BC games will not work with a VGA cable. I quoted
the reason from xbox.com which could be a load of bollocks since, as you
say, most (all?) Xbox PAL games will run happily at 60Hz.

Maybe they'll fix it with a patch at some point since it seems a bit
daft to have an official VGA lead available the use of which prevents
you playing most BC games.

Damn, the 360/vga/projector is the setup i will be using when the
wretched thing finally arrives. This seems to confirm my suspicion
that I will need to keep the xbox1 wired up to the projector via the
composite.

Have you tried halo or GTA on it?

Halo- yes, tried it, doesn't work.
GTA- no, don't have it.

I really hope that a patch is all that's needed for all the BC games to run,
and that it appears quickly.

Mate of mine plays his 360 through a TV card on his PC. Quality is Pal Poor.
So talked him into a VGA lead and VGA selector box.

Now he can't play his favourite game Ghost Recon 2 SS, even though PGR looks
miles better...

Crappy of MS not to make this issue more public. I suppose you have to buy
the cable first then find out is does not work with most old games.

I haven't tried any yet,
but I'm using the HD lead,
plugged into an extension lead with a vga lead on the other end for the
projector.
Will report back if that works any better.

A 360 is the first console I've had, it is hooked up via Component to
my panel. have only bought Original Xbox games so far and I've noticed
that the video is a bit jerky at times which I was suprised by as I'd
have thought it should have loads of CPU/GPU headroom. I'll give the
PAL 60Hz thing a try - Thanks

Hang on. You've bought a 360 and you've only got Xbox games? Why didn't
you buy on Xbox?! Or, why haven't you bought any 360 games?!

TBH I wasn't planning on buying any games - but I thought my daughter
would appreciate something.

So far got
NFS underground 2 (which seems to be favourite) (the sound breaks up
on the videos)
Lemony Snicket (close second)
LOR ROTK
Great Escape (that was for me - but I can't play games for toffees)
Star Wars - EPIII - think this is weakest
