I thought it looked OK (when it FINALLY got up and running!). Graphics
better than I had expected.

I thought some of the camera switches were a bit too abrupt. But it was
nice of the demo to give you all the weapons at the start :) And it
looks very nice in hi-res mode.

You *actually* queued for it? As a (less impressive but still
worthwhile) alternative, watch the rolling demo on Sony's Winter
Releases CD, not 10 minutes but pretty nice. They need to sort out the
sound FX though.

And it'll be lucky to see a Xmas release from the looks of it.

Try playing the OPSM demo, it's pretty cack. Pretty much like Last Ninja
in 3D - but that was cack too. Mindless attacks, no strategy, and silly
the way you drown if you slide down the bank a 2nd time, but not the
first. Most unimpressive.

>Gangsters - 3D viewpoint where you are a gangster. Looks good and
>played well and could be a good game.

Looked a bit like Syndicate Wars, only smoother and more detailed. Shame
it's PC only.

>Babylon 5 - This looked great. Imagine X-Wing but in the B5 universe

Another game that rarely seemed to be doing much, but when it started
moving it looked great. All the great graphics of something like Blast
Radius, but with more of a realistic and strategic feel. I want a PSX
version!

>Tekken 3 - It's not as slow as some people have said it is, but the

Slow as anything, but the movies are nice :)

Oh yes :)

And Andy taking lots of photos of them all (I think that's the only
reason he went back in!) :)

Don't forget the Dreamcast video by the entrance. On a Sony TV :)

I hadn't played Banjo before, thought it wasn't all that hot really. The
new F-Zero thing was quite fun in 2P, but not worth the 50-odd quid
it'll cost.

>Eidos having a lot of good games.

And the bloke from Eidos who gave us those press CDs :)

>There were also a lot of other games and I'll probably mention some of
>them later :)

Crash 3 was pretty good, thought the first level was a bit samey but
went back and tried some others, the underwater bit was good and it's
VERY slick. Plus lots more amusing ways to die - the getting chopped in
half and watching your legs walk away was particularly funny.

Silent Hill looks like being absolutely fantastic. The CGI movies are
the best I've seen, and the game looks really atmospheric. If it's got
plenty of play time in it, it might be the even better than MGS
(blasphemy I know, but I was seriously impressed).

And anyone who's going tomorrow, check out some of the dodgy english
translation - best example so far is in the Kama CD inlay - "You need
careful attention to explained with web page form which is the way of
starting each games, then follow the instructions".

And my entry for most bizarre freebie is a tin of Heinz Beans. I have no
idea why.

>Arggggghh!!

I went, I went! I haven't read the group in a while so I didn't know
there *was* a meet! Still, some great games there, the ones that
impressed me most were: Messiah, Outcast, Railroad Tycoon 2, Space
Station Silicon Valley, 1080 snowboarding, Zelda, Carmageddon 2,
Silent Hill (a true Resident Evil beater if ever I played one!) and,
of course (dribble), Metal Gear Solid. Oh, and RC Stunt 'Copter,
because the guy in front of me playing it was getting the full low
down on it from Dave Perry himself! coo-el!

One thing that did strike me, apart from the, er, 'exotic' dancing on
the Acclaim stand :\, was how tired both the Playstation & N64 are now
looking compared to the latest PC titles, graphically at least.

The Konami stand was the only one that really had any PS games that
excited me. And that mock 'art gallery' nonsense that made up the
Sony stand kind of irritated me. It seemed that Sony were trying to
hide a crop of disturbingly lackluster titles with a 'trendy' West End
style, internet cafe, style-over-content, sauna (read: it very hot in
there) type getup. The whole thing was then exacerbated by the fact
that about half the Playstations didn't seem to work properly. I was
disappointed by virtually every big name game in there, TR3, Spyro,
Medievil, Crash 3. They were all really rather uninspiring. It was
the lesser known titles that seemed the ones to watch out for. So no
surprises there.

The quality of PC graphics is now truly staggering, at this rate
Dreamcast will be left standing before it's even released. The glut
of yet more virtually identical first person shooters disappointed.
Why do the designers insist on churning out the same old stuff that
has got hardly anything over Quake 2 (or even the original DOOM) than
a few more fancy lighting/water/lava effects and weapons. What I, and
I suspect others really want now is the depth of Goldeneye with the
graphical horsepower of say, Daikatana, Turok 2 or Unreal.

Anyway, what do you guys think? For me, overall, the games on show
were disappointing apart from a few gems like MGS, Silent Hill,
Messiah, Outcast, Silicon Valley and Zelda. Konami, god bless you and
Nintendo: blast you for not showing Perfect Dark from the start.
Why!??

This I thought was one of the best games of the show, once the
programmer had unlocked all the levels. The flying levels were very
nice as well as the graphics on the standard Crash levels, definitely
one to look out for.

It did look very nice, although I also liked (oh bugger I can't

character looked like a James Bond type with a SWAT Team outfit on,
very nice to look at and a lovely sniper option for the hand pistol

She's got a few more moves as well. She can now crouch and crawl on all fours
(:->) and she can also hang from bars and monkey climb along the underneath of
platforms. Hi-res mode and shit loads of more graphic tweaks are present, also
the level designers have got a few more "old tomb raider" level feel of being a
bit mystical. Oh yeah I forgot the Tyrannasaurous Rex is a bit more dangerous
too. It will take an hour to kill it with pistols now.

Bastard, did see him. Which stand was it.

Did you see Lilly Savage on the savage 3d stand ? And in the restaurant kicking

No, but I did see an exceptionally ugly woman *pretending* to be Lily
Savage. As Paul and Jimbo rightly pointed out at a worryingly high
volume within her earshot she was indeed a moose by every definition of
word with the obviously exception of not being a four-legged herbivore.

Got a "Tekken 3" bag on Monday + about 10, 1cm square PSX badges. Loads of
mags, loads of promo disks. Also some people managed to grab a couple of
"Project X" ruck sacks, proper ones. I missed my chance at those, and my excuse

The Castlevania machine next to me was bust, but the sounds were working.
Looked like it needed a reset. Some suits came up wanting a go and tried to
have a go on the blank screen next to me. Looking all official, they hung
around me, wanting a go. No fucking chance :->

Also saw at the M$ stand. They had some hydrolic car models you could sit in
and play their racing game. All three were on, but one of the car games looked
very much like "scandisk". I'm not buying that for my pc :->

Saw an Amidar rif-off with dead snazzy GFX.
Gremlins Tanktics looked interesting but I couldn't get people off it to have a
go.
TOCA 2 looks and plays sweet, especially the no. of players. 1-8 PC/LAN. 1-4
PSX (splitscreen + linkup. MMMmmm).

There were loads of games I couldn't/didn't get a go on. Also I fealt I got
dazzled by too many games and it got very hard to distinguish the good and bad
after a bit. You definitly need a chill-out-room where you can't hear the beeps

18 CDs, 2 proper bags, foreign mags, latest OPSM, tons of promo

some beans.

Oh, crap, can't remember much.... the games weren't on there, but there
were lots of screenshots and concept art, that sort of stuff. It had TR3
and that Gangsters thing on, among about 15 games.

At least most of the CDs had the images and movies easily accessible -
unlike the crappy Psygnosis one which wouldn't let you into the
directories through File Manager or something, and wouldn't install
itself properly on the laptop. Pah. At least the Gremlin one was
properly done.

We froze the odd game on the PSX but doing a PC is too easy, what's
needed is that they be introduced to the very technical 'format c:'
command..

Just find a PC running a really dire TR clone and let rip..

I used to do this at the PCW shows (yes that long ago!), not anymore.
