can anyone give me a clue as to why my copies only work when i turn the psx
upside down ?
it is a 5502
also this only affects copies that i have made not ones that i have got from
another source
i am using samsung discs and a yamaha 4416s with cdrwin
i have another chipped 5502 and that will run everything !!!
if i swap the laser units over the problem appears on the new console so i
think that it may be a laser fault
what can i do about it ????
any replies greatly received !!!!

Yes the lazer is the prob, turning it upside down moves the lazer closer to
the cd.

You can adjust the laser using the screw on the lazer unit, Move it a v
little anti clockwise
Till it works.

Try burning your CD's at 2x for a start. Always seems to help, altho dodgy
lasers in anyfink other than a 100x is not v.common as far as I'm aware.

You have to turn the TV and your sofa upside down - ideally sticking them
to the ceiling in your living room. This will fool your PS into thinking
it's upside down when in fact, it sneakily isn't!

You might also want to get hold of the official Sony Gravity Inverter too.

As a sensible response, the laser power is to low.
On the brown flat cable that connects the laser to the PSX is a VERY time
variable resistor, this needs adjusting CAREFULLY. One way will make the
problem worse, the other will make it better.
Needless to say, if you pop ya PSX, it aint got jack to do with me!
(ps, this is from experience)

I personally use the sony room inverter, available at your local radio shack. If
you have more than 1 playstation, you might want to try the sony house
inverter,as it will flip all rooms upside down at once!

All the Kodak Gold (Old 6X certified) i burn at 4X on my CDR-400ATx
using CDRWin 3.6b work flawless on my PSX 7501. No skip or no
slowdown at all.

Dipping your psx in a bucket of water usually does the trick.

I had that problem with those memorex disks on a 50 count spindel. The
verbatim disks work well for me. Also by their very nature the disks are
harder to read. The psx has to be clean. I've had games that I thought
were bad burns, but after cleaning the lens on the psx ran perfect.

This is to do with the tracking motor array for the CD read head, which,
unfortunately, is a pile of shit. Over use strips the gearing and the
reads start screwing up... CDRs are intrinsically harder to read than
pressed CDs, since the difference in optical properties between the states
is lower.

turning the PSX upside down means that gravity pushes teh gears down and
the damaged gears can often bite again. The downside is that this really
accelerates the wear and soon the machine won't play legit discs either.

Incidentally, this is not a piracy issue. It's a problem for legitimate
users, 'cos of Sony's shoddy build standards.

Stop using copies, and ruining every shopkeeper's trade GROW UP and RESPECT the
PSX

He has grown up. He too has realized that shopkeeper's loyalty to
their customers never extends further than their date of
purchase. Show me ONE company that ever went belly-up (on purpose
for tax breaks and greed) and then worried about their customers
and employees that they left high and dry. Not ONE tear is ever
shed for the position you put your customers and employees in
time and time again. Time for YOU to grow up and realize that the
majority of consumers are onto the game you corporate asswipes
play. We have the net now, you are not a consideration anymore.
Deal with it.
