At Chipsworld.co.uk (and perhaps instore?). I suspect I may have seen it
cheaper elsewhere, though.

I'm tempted too, but some people are saying it's a Metroidvania game (so I
thought WOO), then others are saying it's a stealthy beat-em-up like
Hitman (so I think SHIT). Stealth sections have ruined many a game for
me, and stealth-genre games (MGS/Splinter Cell/Hitman/Manhunt) are all
shit.

Fair point I can't really say much about the game having not even played the
demo

Prices have gone up since I posted then - 360 was 25, PS3 was 35.

Format? As for buying decision, have you tried the demo?

Gonna give this one a miss having played the demo, not my style of game.
Never been a fan of 3rd person games, and I hate the button mashing
beat-em-up stuff. Stealth sections in the game felt pretty poor as well,
what the hell is the "detective mode" all about, suddenly batman has
special powers? WTF?

Anyway, I'm sure if you like that style of game, you'll love Batman.
It's just not my thing.

um, it's not a superpower, it even says in the demo it's a vision mode
in his visor, you know, like the sonar thing from The Dark Knight, or
night vision, etc.

you have to remember that Batman does have a lot of gadgets ;)

Oh right, you must mean the vision mode in the visor that he doesn't
wear? I can see his eyes through the mask!

Anyway, I'm not saying it's a terrible game, it's just not one I'm going
to enjoy. The camera and combat annoys me far too much to make it fun
for me.

if you've ever watched a Batman film, or read any of the comics, he's
had several vision modes in the mask, usually little filter things
that slide over his eyes. he's Batman, he has a gadget for everything,
after all ;)

i don't think the game's that hot either, myself, certainly not as
good as many are claiming it to be anyway.

playable enough, but not anything stellar.

looks nice though.

I've only played the demo and the first hour or two, but so far it's a really
strong contender for game of the year. It's really very good indeed.

It's got Metroidvania elements - it's structured like one, I guess, in that
it's lots of exploration with a fair bit of backtracking and getting new
abilities that unlock previously unopened areas and that sort of thing. It's
*also* got stealthy bits, but not shit ones like MGS or something; you
basically zip between gargoyles before dropping down onto bad guys heads to
kill0rize them in various excitingly brutal ways. And there's also a sort of
Prince of Persia third-person combat style of thing that you can fight unarmed
bad guys with. It's not one particular thing, but it is all excellent.

Metroid Fusion had metroidvania elements and also stealthy bits.
Just sayin', like.

Yeah, but 2D stealth seems to be OK for me, it's 3D (or top-down) I can't
stand.
