Zuma (XBLA) - Level 8 remains impossible.

Kameo (360) - I loved this game until Deep Blue was introduced. The
controls for him are terrible and the camera is dodgy too when on the
surface of the water, and as a result I stopped playing this months ago.
I decided to pick it up again and while making a little progress, I
remained stuck with Deep Blue so I gave up again.

Lord of the Rings Online (PC) - More engrossing that World of Warcraft,
looks fantastic, and the players all seem much friendier than in WoW. I'm
still only level 17 as I've been spending too much time trying to complete
all the Xbox Achievement style deeds in the Shire before moving on.

Crackdown (360) - Ok, I'm going to be alone here but I'm quite
disappointed with the DLC. I've already played the game to death and I
needed more than a few new weapons and cars to get me playing again, and
the Keys to the City cheat mode was only fun for about five minutes. I
was quite excited as I thought we would be getting some new mission
content, as it is the new content is quite pointless.

Double Dragon (XBLA) - I tried the demo, that was enough. A shame.

EDF 2017 (360) - Just a couple more levels on hard. Great for ten minute
blasts.

Lego Star Wars II (360) - Top co-op fun. I'm looking forward to Lego
Batman now, has it been confirmed or is it just a rumour?

Picross (DS) - I've heard the name mentioned many times over the years but
never knew what Picross was until I picked this up on the DS and now I'm
completely hooked. It looks like having plenty of longevity with plenty
of wi-fi downloads too, excellent value for money. Stranglely easier to
play without the stylus though considering the type of game it is.

Want:

Cooking Mama (Wii) - But only at a budget price. It's bound to be a
novelty game (aren't all Wii games?) so I'll be waiting for a price drop
before I pick this up.

Carcassonne (XBLA) - Replacing Catan as my weekly XBLA board game want.

A proper scolling beat-em-up revamp on XBLA - Mega CD or arcade Final
Fight please.

To know whether or not to switch to Sky Max broadband. I'm still on my
original Pipex service paying £23.44 for 1mb. The service has been solid
for me with no downtime in the last five or six years or so, but only £10
for a possible 16x service is quite appealing, yet I've heard so many
mixed reports than I'm completely unsure what to do.

C&C3 (X360) - Silly cheesey fun. The controls work surprisingly well, and
although it's not the greatest strategy game ever (build -> accumulate ->
rush works for most missions) and I'm not a fan of the baseless earlier
levels, it's well worth the cash. Also, the chicks are hot.

Slitherlink (DS) - Stopped doing the easy puzzles now and moved onto the
18x10 ones. Averaging 10 minutes or so per puzzle but have only done a couple.
My addiction is showing no signs of slowing just yet.

Excite Truck (Wii) - Borrowed this off a friend. It's really quite fast, isn't
it? And jolly good fun. And actually rather pretty, too, considering how the
Wii is "just" a "GameCube on Steroids"". I like. I like a lot.

Wii Sports (Wii) - After the Eurovision, powered up the Wii and a few people
had a blast at tennis and bowling and stuff. Wish I had a second controller
now for moments like that. Even my gf had a go, which NEVER HAPPENS. Yay peer
pressure.

House buying (RL) - GRRHATE

Duke Special (RL) - Well, not so much playing as watching, at Academy 3 last
night. Really a rather excellent gig. Two encores and the band all came down
offstage and sat in the middle of the audience and improvised a song about,
uh, sitting in the middle of the room and not having any spoons. One of those
great gigs where the audience is just having a great time and that feeds back
to the artist who relaxes and has a great time and everyone just ends up
feeling lovey and wonderful and it was just brilliant. Yay for Duke.

Running (RL) - HARD WORK

Earth Defense Force 2017 (360) : I played it solidly for about 3 hours
on Saturday going through a fair few levels and just playing with the
avalanche of weapons that it drops on your head. The descent levels
where you are underground were getting a little tiresome although that
rocket launcher that fires about 10 rockets in a wide horizontal spread
proved enough to make it a jolly enough experience. The Buffalo G3 is my
current favourite weapon. Any shotgun that can take down an enormous
robot with a few shots and make him explode like a supernova has GOT to
rival even the Doom shotgun. The cheesy dialogue and the sprites for the
pickups somehow add to the whole experience. "It's a very huge bug"
still makes me laugh.

Virtua Tennis 3 (360) : Although the demo put me off I finally picked it
up as a mate has it so some on-line matches will be the order of the
day. It stands on a large building and launches an un-dodgeable stream
of piss all over Top Spin 2. The mini games are a hoot and the mechanics
of the tennis remains as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.
The conversations between other zombie tennis players is a really stupid
and pointless addition however.

Pinball FX (360) : Cracked the 500 million barrier on the Speed table
whilst my daughter was asleep on me. Once she woke up I was shite. I've
still no idea how the tuning thing works though - it's not exactly the
most helpful table in that respect.

F.E.A.R. (360) : At the same time as I picked up VT3 I also used my
Gamestation credit note to get this. As has been mentioned before the
highly original warehouse setting is both unique and colourful. To be
fair I've not had a proper chance to play it properly as it's not the
kind of game you can play with kids about as there's both swearing and
copious amounts claret.

NFS:MW (360) : Made no progress at all despite playing it for an hour or
so as I managed to get myself nicked, once through my own shit driving
and once through a big fuck off SUV appearing out of nowhere and
flipping me onto my roof. The tension during a police chase is like very
few other games though it has to be said - you know that one slip and
all that bounty and those milestones are gone and you'll have to do the
whole thing again.

Nothing. Definitely not a Wii anyway. I've got far too much 360 stuff to

Forza demo : I never really got into the original as I found it really
sterile and this is no exception. Yes it does what it's meant to but
gently breaking round a corner and feathering the throttle to prevent
your back wheels from pushing you into a mental oversteer seems more
chore-like to me than actual fun. PGR3 struck the right balance in
respect of reality vs actually making the game enjoyable.

Shining Force EXA (PS2) - A pleasant surprise. While it's a Diablo-esque
action RPG, there's enough variety and novelty to keep it from being a
totally stale grind-fest. Your party is always split into two teams, one
guarding your base and one out in the field. If you take too long to
accomplish your task outside, your base gets attacked by a random
encounter (of several hundred orcs) and your base party has to take
action. There's also a nicely original power-up system in place.

Beatmania (PS2) - An early birthday present from the brother. I can see
why this took off in Japan but not in the west, as the Japanese might
prefer to be funky standing totally still, whereas Europeans would prefer
to be funky whilst shaking their hips. Americans, by definition, are
generally bereft of funk unless they are also ethnic. :)

Phantasy Star Universe (PS2 and 360) - For some reason, the demo copy of
PSU that I downloaded seven months ago appears to still work on my 360.
I'd heard a bug that Silver Live subscribers can play the full retail
version of PSU for free online. Is this a deliberate freebie, or a
horrible bug?

Gotzendiener (TGCD) - I pulled this out of mothballs after all the action
RPG, uh, action. I had forgotten that I stopped playing after the third
level because I couldn't figure out what the puzzle was, to say nothing of
how to solve it. Anybody out there know what to do with the dead monsters
you push over the edge of the raised walkways?

Game Gear repair - My current project over at GamesX is putting together
some consolidated information about how Game Gear hardware fails. I had a
successful test run repairing the screen and a failed speaker on one old

Pokemon Diamond (DS) - Got stuck for a while trying to level up enough for
the fifth gym, but finally beat the gym leader there last night. Hooray.
Also: I wish Nintendo had included a way to search the wifi trades by the
Pokemon you're offering, not just search for Pokemon you want. The place is
currently flooded with kids offering rubbish and wanting Paklia in return.
Also also: the underground caverns are excellent when you're playing near
somebody. I captured my wife's flag and laughed and laughed. And then
swapped a sphere for some lovely flowers to apologise. Good times, yeah.
Also also: drawing zombies and gay robots in the union room is fun.

Picross DS (DS) - Made a couple of puzzles last night then handed the DS
across to my wife to solve. Darth Vader and Jason Voorhees. Better than any
of the included puzzles, oh yes.

Forza Motorsport Demo (360) - One half of my brain thinks this is incredibly
dull and frustrating, the other half is too engrossed in gently guiding the
car round the track to care. I keep on playing this so I think I must like
it, but I'm not quite sure I should. Wish full damage was enabled in the
demo and that there were online leaderboards.

Crackdown (360) - I downloaded the new content and instead of trying the new
modes just reset the bosses and cleared out the first two islands again.
Then played co-op for the first time. Was lovely when it worked, but we got
disconnected from each other when I was winning an amazing city-wide
checkpoint race and then when we played Rocket Tag (which is great fun) our
360s both froze when I won. Tch. Still, got an achievement for killing a
boss in co-op.

Centipede/Millipede (360) - Just Millipede. It's incredibly addictive and
one of the best things on Live Arcade, but why can't I come near the high
score I set on the first day I had this?

Blacksite Demo (360) - Short and sweet. If the framerate can be sorted out
before release - right now it's astonishingly bad - then this might be worth
keeping an eye on. Probably needs better feedback from weapon hits, too,
thinking about it.

Omalone (DS) - A very polished Homebrew board game. You use your pieces to
push your opponents pieces off the board and it's all very simple but well done.

Slitherlink (DS) - Did another couple of puzzles, then forgot to do any more.

Panel De Pon DS (DS) - I don't think I do like this much, really. Shame, as
I loved the Pokemon-branded version.

Test Drive Unlimited (PSP) - I am now a Pro and am doing the Class C events
in some Aston Martin I bought after I drove over seventy miles over the
island looking for a new car.

The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Wii) - Platform levels: ace. Town bits:
rubbish.

> Want:

Rainbow Six Vegas (360) - I'm not even sure why, but I've been wanting this

I'm tempted.

Oh, yeah, I played this and came to broadly the same conclusion. I mean,
there's nothing /wrong/ with it, as such, but I couldn't see a single thing in
it that GT4 didn't seem to do better.

That surprises me. The only thing making me want to keep my PS3 (HD
Casino Royale aside) was that demo. Although I notice that when I say
"it looks worse than GT4" on groups people think I'm talking about
GTHD. I'm talking about GT4. The ancient PS2 game. Running on a machine

This is what I spent the weekend playing too. Despite the complaints of
others about the stylus, it's pretty neat once you realise you can use the
d-pad to toggle modes too.

Larger puzzles still take time to get used to though, so I use button mode
for that; but then my error rate goes way up since I seem to hit boxes I
don't mean to! So a bit flawed in that respect.

Oh, and played some WFC over the weekend too, lost the two games I played
but they were close. Mistakes aren't penalised as much as I would like (you
get locked out for 5 seconds) since my opponent's slight use of trial and
error enabled him to get the upper hand each time.

I just need to have the whole grid on screen at once and you can't seem to
do that with stylus controls. That's the only reason why I think the d-pad's
better.

The sisters of fate seem to have decided that I'll no longer get
enough time to really play games any more. I used to play all
afternoon and into the early hours on a Sunday. Nothing specific is
getting in the way of that, but I don't think I managed more than a
few hours yesterday.

>Play:

Catan (XBLA) - I know the leaderboards make it look like I'm a special
needs gamer, but I've been playing this game all weekend on hard with
4 opponents (for kicks, honest). On three separate occasions I've been
beaten when I have 9 points already and more than enough cards to make
a settlement into a city, all that needs to happen is for nobody to
win before it's my go. I still haven't played online, which I really
should do.

Spidey 3 (360) - Parts of this game are really well thought out, but
their execution is abysmal. If ever a game needed 3 months of polish,
it's this one. I'm enjoying it, but the control scheme is more of a
challenge than most of the missions.

Forza 2 demo (360) - I think I'm going to love the game, but the demo
has had it's day.

Catan (360)
LOVE. I currently rate this as my favourite XBLA game to date, and given my
insane love of MBU, that's quite an achievement. I seem to be doing
reasonably well at it, but my tactics are relatively simple, and probably
place an undue emphasis on road-building and development cards.

Crackdown (360)
I haven't actually bought the premium content yet, instead spending some
time trying to get the last of the agility orbs. I found 3 of the 5 I was
after, but only one of them thanks to the new increased sonar thing.
Definitely planning to get the DLC this week.

PGR3 (360)
Some online, with varying degrees of rubbishness, but mostly racing against
the clock in a tightly fought competition with a friend. Unless he did
something spectacular *very* late last night, then he'll be getting the
drinks in this lunchtime. :)

Rainbow Six: Vegas (360)
Jumped in to a survival match, killed *everyone*, winning spectacularly,
then proceeded to do absolutely dreadfully in all subsequent games, managing
one kill to about every five deaths. Soon got fed up.

Texas Hold'em (360)
Due to some fairly indiscriminate invite spraying late on Friday night, I
caught up with some people on my friends list who I haven't played with for
ages, including one person who I played Street Fighter Anniversary
Collection with once, two years ago, who turns out to be a very nice bloke.

Village Fete (RL)
Possibly the most quinessentially English thing I've ever seen. I was
attracted by the promise of 'Pony Riding Dog Show', but sadly this was a
lack of punctuation rather than a genuine equine/canine spectacular. It did,
though, provide lots of blue-rinsed old ladies, torrential rain (that
everybody pretended wasn't happening, naturally), tea and cakes, Bob
Champion judging the waggiest tail competition, grimly miserable primary
school children doing country dancing in the rain and lots of bales of hay.
I can't quite decide whether it was a fantastic afternoon, or a taster of
purgatory.

Are you really telling us that the reason for the hundred-year delay is
cos you can't decided on the font size?

For heaven's sake, dude! Look - here ye go: 11 point Helvetica / Arial.

It's Verdana 10pt. Which looks fine on screen, but Tim printed it out
and said it looked far too big on print, so when I downed it to 9 at
his suggestion it looked ludicrously small on screen but fine in print.
So if, as I suspect, nobody except Tim prints it out, then it stays
with 10, but I need to be sure of that first. That's not the reason for
the delay, but I sent him a beta sample and that was one of his main
points.

The mini chainsaw is the best weapon in the game pretty much. If

you triple stack your books as well, a single mini chainsaw can last
half the game.

Outrageous post of the week. What are you on and can I have some? My

I maintain my view. F2 has a sharpness edge, but the jaggies are awful,
the car models are no better, and the scenery is just as bland. On a
purely graphical standpoint, either GT4 is an astonishing example of
squeezing every possible drop out of aging hardware, or Forza 2 is just
incredible laziness by a team not bothered about getting what they
should out of the system. I expect a combination of the two.

Or alternatively, they concentrated their effort on the driving/physics
model.
Also bear in mind that it's only a demo.
I've never played GT4, and wouldn't like to comment on the basis of
screenshots alone, but it strikes me that the Forza 2 demo looks good enough
to not detract from the experience, and there's every likelihood it'll look
a bit more polished in its final form. Even if it doesn't, then I don't
think it's a huge problem. After the first 5 minutes, the difference between
adequate visuals and 'WOW! Fuck me!' visuals tends to become unimportant
anyway.

the fuss was about. After all, Radio 1 made a big fuss about it last year,
launching a virtual stage there.

Well, I'm still trying to see what the fuss is about, but I'm also left
wondering how I managed to lose ten hours without thinking about it,
exploring this "world". Oh, and even though Radio 1's stage is still there,
I can't get to it. It seems to be only available when something's actually

Joost (PC): Going to the forums and trying out different tweaks to get a

really, tweaking shouldn't be necessary at all. I know it's a beta and all
that, but apparently the internal settings have been an issue for a while

It's very unlikely you'll get 16x service. 8x is pushing it. My brother
tried the Sky broadband (he's got Sky HD) and gave up on it after a month
and switched to Tiscali. Dropped connections and sub-1Mb speeds were the
least of his problems.

I'd stick with Pipex. It may seem a little expensive, but if the service has
been as rock solid as you say, I wouldn't change it for anything. It might
be worth phoning them and seeing if you can get a speed increase though
(loyal customer and all that). When I (eventually) get my own place, I'm
going to miss Virgin Broadband (and NTL before it) because I've had a
rock-solid connection since day one and that was three years ago.

Doesn't the photo mode in GT4 produce a rendered image? I haven't played
it for a while, but I seem to recall that watching races on the replay
was better than the display that you got when you were actually racing?
Perhaps it's because you've got more time to admire the scenery?

Anyway, I thought the advantage that Forza 2 had over the GT games was
the whole online racing and trading thing? Also, the driver AI in Forza
1 was noticeably more life like than the drivers in GT4 who would stick
to the racing line like glue and never make mistakes.

It's hypnotic, but I didn't get as much chance to play it as I hoped.
Looking forward to the retail release now - because the track is a
little boring and only being able to do 3 laps is irritating.
Leaderboards would be nice, but I'm not very good yet, so I can live
without them for now ;)

PGR3 (360) Briefly, while very drunk late last night.

Crackdown (+DLC)
Played this for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon, vaguely doing some
races and what have you. Still fun - though I wish DrG would sort out
his bloody net connection as the lag he gets in coop is ludicrous.

Blacksite Demo (360)
I fundamentally agree with everything the resident worshipfulness had to
say about this. It was good, a bit too short, nicely atmospheric, the
impact of your weapon is vague, to say the least and the frame rate is a
bit chuggy. I shall keep an eye on this one.

Oh, if anyone else just happens to have a Japanese account on their 360,
they might want to try downloading this - I'm hearing that it's not only
region-free, but even plays in English on non-Japanese machines.
Certianly, the menus pick it up as Eternal Sonata on my console, though
it does turn into Moonspeak when I actually play it.

Hudson's Puzzle Series games (DS) - Slitherlink, obviously, but I also
got Illust Logic, Nurikabe and Akari. Nurikabe is great, if perhaps
harder than Slitherlink. Akari's a bit easy, but a nice enough puzzle.
Illust Logic is probably the best Picross/Nonogram/whatever version I've
played on the DS. I'll try and make a more detailed post about them
later. But, if you like logic games and you're bored of Slitherlink,
Nurikabe would be a good buy.

Picross DS - Because I can't have enough of these games, apparently.
Very nicely presented (and even playable when you turn off stylus mode),
and the wifi stuff is good. There seem to be far too many easy puzzles,
though. And I hate the way you can't turn off the "telling you when

The best piece of advice for Puzzle Quest is USE YOUR SPELLS. It's amazing how
many people I know who've played this just like Zoo Keeper and utterly
neglected the spells. It's an RPG, it just happens to use a Zoo Keeper mechanic
for battles, so play it like an RPG.

It was more than good of you to put all that effort into proving what
most of the people in this group already know. Zo gets carried away -
sure, Forza 2 doesn't look spangly enough for him and I feel for his
disappointment, but anybody with eyes in their head and an ability to be
rational would laugh at his assertions that it looks worse than GT4 on a
PS2. I think he has an addiction to being mocked. Why else would he

Sigh. I still maintain you're an idiot. GT4 renders replays, when you
have more time to study the graphics. In no way is GT4 better than Forza
2, graphically or as a racing game.

Car models/shmodels. I think you're wrong about that as well - low poly
count cars with some nice textures on, a lot of which will be in the
replays only, do not count. There. Right, what about the boxes - do you
think the blue of the PS2 game case is more aesthetically pleasing than
the green of the 360?

You have a history of being manically enthusiastic or depressed about
your perceived values and whether or not they are being met. You're also
a known graphics whore - maybe, just maybe, in view of the car paintwork
customisation being in there as it was so popular from the first and
the online aspect, Turn 10 made some decisions to protect the core gameplay.

Or you could be right - they're fucking lazy. How dare they not work 25
hours a day, 8 days a week to meet your ludicrous expectations.

Right, I'm off to the Pope's wedding, followed by some ice skating. In
hell.

get it out for launch. Forza 2 feels like it's lacking any of the PGR3
polish, which given it was continually delays to get it just right and
Turn 10 were making there own deadlines doesn't bode too well.

Just like when GT4 was delayed for an eternity and *still* couldn't get
online play and damage done, when such a big racing release is looking
like the worst racer visually on the system (having only played PGR3,
TDU, RR6 and MotoGP it's the worst of that bunch) despite huge delays
then people will get a bit pissed off.

Bode too well for what exactly? This is what I don't get and why I'm not
bothering to argue with you anymore - why is it so fucking important in
a racing simulator to have AA and HDR? Why are you so obsessed with
this? They never promised this, did they? PGR is on it's fourth
iteration for christ's sake and I still think it's shit in a lot of regards.

I would actually contend that PGR3's car models look worse. Several of
them actually only have a passing resemblance to the real thing. The
graphics were running at a compromised frame rate and in some butchered
resolution and it makes the game quite tricky to play well when you have
to know where the corners are in certain street circuits as they're
pretty indistinguishable from the scenery until half a second after you
should have been on the brakes.

Go and put it on and have a good look. You're wrong about the car models.

Plus PGR4 is, what, running at 30fps again. I don't care, I'll probably
buy it again.

I can't comment on TDU or Moto GP as I only played the demos, but the
TDU demo looked really lame to me - was quite impressed with it's scope,
but graphically it looked like it was running in a fairly lo-res to me.
But IT"S NOT FUCKING IMPORTANT as if the game is any good, as Chris
Stevens said, and it's particularly valid with racing games - you won't
notice any of the effects and if you sit there cussing the lack of AA
and HDR then I'm sorry but you're missing the point and you should
simply accept that the game isn't for you.

FFS Zo we've had programmers in UGVX defending the lack of 'polish'
because the engine required to make it 'race' properly is a) more
important, and b) very resource hungry.

You don't like it. Deal with it and stop criticising it for failing to
be everything you were hoping. I think you're assertions that Turn 10
are lazy and your expectations are, yes, ludicrous.

That sounds about right, but I still preferred the feel of the driving
model in Forza to GT4. The racing line display thing in Forza was very
useful in learning the tracks too.

It does sound as if I should give Sky Max a miss. Shame as I'll probably
cancel Sky TV now then as I was only really going to keep it if I could
subsidise it with the cheaper broadband costs.

Looks like that if I do leave Pipex it'll be for one of the Enta resellers

I've had Sky Max for about 3 months now and can't fault it - I sync at
15Mb and download at 1.6MB/sec at all times from fast places.

Actually, I will fault the Netgear router they supply as it was shit and

for that mini-Samba I thought (especially once you've done the tracks
on Hard :-)).

Super Mario World (DC DreamSNES) - for a number of reasons (which may
or may not have included temporary insanity) I thought it might be
better to play this on the Dreamcast than the SNES or a PC. I was
probably wrong, but I'd already beaten the second boss before I'd even
really thought about that. So despite it being very jerky and having
some quite nasty slowdown at times, I kept going to the end (though I
only bothered with 83 exits this time).

Amplitude (PS2) - for a while I'd been trying to get a three-bars
rating on all the tracks on Brutal (which I'm sure is pointless,
especially as it goes up to at least four), and I got there at last by
finally managing it on that stubborn Komputer Kontroller track.

Frequency (PS2) - despite general crapness I got through "End Of Your
World" for only the second time ever... work that one out. :-) I did
notice that turning vibration off helped a bit with my timing problems
(weirdly), but I'm still messing up even basic lines quite often.

> Want:

Test Drive Unlimited (PS2) - I thought this was inevitably going to be
a rubbish port, but it sounds like they actually did a half-decent
job. Presumably it's similar to the PSP version.

> Bin:

Sega Superstars being on CD. Luckily they had the sense to keep the
spin speed down so it's not much worse than e.g. Frequency, but to use
a CD in 2004 was still pretty cheap of them.

Eyetoy: Monkey Mania demo (PS2) - even as an Ape Escape fan I have to
say this is absolutely awful.

Eyetoy Play 2 demo (PS2) - not much better, and with surprisingly poor
detection of running. Also, having Baseball as the *only* game in a
PAL demo = genius.

I'm sure that the only reason DreaSNES exists is for nostalgia's sake.
Every other emulator that actually runs on the Dreamcast is far superior
in performance and in fidelity to the original product. You should give
the Atari ST and Neo Geo emulators a go, if you haven't already.

stolen it for a Divx player. I should get her an Xbox of her own now. :)

Well yes, but nothing really amazing enough to entice me back into playing it
again. The icons that taunt you saying "You need the paid for content to
access this so fuck off you cheap-ass scummy bastard" annoy me a little too.

I thought Netgear equipment was very highly regarded. I've used the same
Netgear router for a few years now and it's been solid for me, very rarely
needing a reboot. What went wrong with the Sky version? Something a
firmware upgrade couldn't fix then I take it? What did you replace it with?

Well, I had finally decided to try ADSL24.co.uk for a month and then see what
I want to do. With that in mind I asked Pipex for my migration code and was
offered their "unlimited" 8x service and free landline calls 24/7 for £19.99
per month. Trouble is, as with Sky, this would tie me into a new twelve
month contract which scares me, especially as while Pipex are great on a
fixed service, the Max services can be apparently quite dodgy.

I've taken my migration code anyway in the meantime while I have another read
up on the various services and decide what I want to do.

Bloody hell, how much? I think I'll just wait for Sky to sort the Netgear
router issues out before I switch to Sky Max.

Last time I tried emulation on the DC I was generally disappointed with
everything I tried. Lots of glitchy sound, lots of slowdown. That was
for things like Megadrive and SNES. If some other ones work nicely then
I'll be keen to have another attempt (although my ST *is* connected to my
telly and ready to go :))

1)
What's a good Neo Geo game to try?

2)
On top of the Neo Geo emulator and ST emulator, which other once provide
pleasing results?

Magician Lord and King of Fighter's 95 are generally the ones that put an
emulator through its paces. Not being able to run either of those games
means that other, more complex titles will never run properly. If you're
asking which Neo Geo games are most fun, you can't go wrong with any of
the Metal Slug scrolling shooters. I have a particular fondness for
Crossed Swords, which is sort of a third-person action RPG using the Mike
Tyson's Punch Out fighting engine. Be advised that we're talking
specifically about Neo CD games, as opposed to MVS or AES emulation.

>2)
>On top of the Neo Geo emulator and ST emulator, which other once provide

Generally, anything that's an 8-bit system is pretty well emulated on the
Dreamcast now. NES, Master System, and Game Gear provide some good
results. The port of Frodo gives you about 90 percent of the Commodore 64
library playable, with the other 10 percent slow and glitchy as you've
observed in other emulators. The first generation of game consoles is also
well emulated, Stella for the Atari 2600 and Colem for the Colecovision
respectively.

Handhelds are a little trickier to emulate, particularly on the Dreamcast.
NeoPocott has no sound support, and many of the Gameboy emulators don't
support many of the speaker channels because of the difficulty of
emulating that separate sound chip. The Wonderswan and GBA emulators
barely work at all.

Don't forget to check out the unofficial builds of Bleem!, which appear to
run a surprisingly amount of original Playstation games. Time Crisis is
one game I found surprisingly well presented, although it doesn't support
the DC light gun.

E-mail me if you want to discuss this in more depth, I'm sure we've bored
the entire group to death at this point. :)

Which would you recommend: NEO4ALL or NeoDC?

If I recall correctly, Neo4All never officially got out of Beta stage and
only supported sound late in the game. There should be a NeoDC release
from mid-2005 that supports most games and full sound emulation, version
9.3 if I'm not mistaken. E-mail me privately if you have trouble tracking
down the code.
