well it popped through my letterbox today and I've just played it for 10
mins. Did anyone realise it was BAFTA nominated?

The best way I can sum it up is Tron on Acid - whether it's a good or a bad
trip, that's another thing. If you like Space Harrier and dance/trance music
then you're well in there. I found the gameplay fast/fluid and quite
addictive once the beats get going (probably moreso if I spend longer on
it!)!....and it works well with my rumble pack.

Graphics are nothing to shout home about, (think of Tron) but that's not
what the game's about. It's more the beat/music/sound you create when firing
your weapons and destroy enemies, which no doubt gets more complex and
interesting the further you go on.

As to the plot, didn't have time to read the manual..something about
penetrating firewalls and destroying viruses. Was a bit confused whilst
attacking the 1st end of level "thing" that I turned into a globe? Anyway,
will read about that sometime, but it proves it's one of those games you can
"pick up" without resorting to the manual - just fire at everything!

Well I like it, and it is different to anything I've played personally. My
only gripe so far is the flickering text (no it's not my telly!) which is
difficult to read.

from the videos ive seen of the ingame footage it looks fantastic, in
a neo-retro (what a paradoxical oxymoron that is ;) sort of way.

think the storyline is that you're an anti-virus sort of thing trying
to eradicate some viruses which have infected a mainframe computer. so
it is *very* tron. you turned into a globe most likely because you got
hit. you dont have lives as such from what ive read, but instead
"forms" so the more powerful you get, the more humanoid you become,
the more damage you take, the less humanoid you are, and i think the
ball/blob is the last one before you die :)

Can't think what they'd be on a game like this - usually it tends to be
graphics but not in this case I don't think. Might be better to buy the
Dreamcast version for collectible purposes (being one of the last games).

If you use a Dreamcast on VGA then the DC version is the better choice, if you use a TV then its a more difficult choice.

Yep. Ball, then humanoid made of squares (this is where you start),
then you get a skeletal structure, then you get a wireframe skin, then
you go smooth humanoid.

And the fifth level (get all four normal levels analysed 100%) is an
evil bastard. I'm sure I've come within one wave of winning the damn
thing several times - and it's a half hour run!

Super addictive and excellent fun. Buy Now!

Well, apparently the ps2 version runs at 60fps, the DC 30fps.
As I'm a bit of a frame rate freak, I'm going to pass on the DC version.

Does anyone happen to know if its coming out on GC or XBox?

Do you mean the boss at the end? I still can't totally finish the boss,
although it still counts as being complete (i.e. it gives you the
credits etc)

You'd pay £10+ extra, just for a few extra frames per second? Your stint as
the custodian of Babylon 4 paid well, then?

No! Bastards.

I might be wrong about nearly finishing it then - I've got all of the
girl at the end down to her knees, and that's the furthest I've got -
dead at the next wave.

Closer to 250quid extra, including buying a PS2! Seriously, a lot of
games seem much smoother at 60 instead of 30, if this is the case I
reckon he's right.

I haven't got a PS2, so I've no choice.

Still, that's an awful lot to pay to get a game that runs a bit smoother . .

I 'rebuilt' her down to her waist before snuffing it, she is still trapped,
apparently. Also, I have managed to open one whole level in Beyond, looks

It's a little like the Pandra's Box in Panzer Dragoon Zwei that gives extra
levels and 'cheats', a new menu opened after I'd got to the end credits
(without completing the boss.) I have 3/33 and 1/9 so far so I have a long
way to go.

I have no idea, all I know is that it some writing appeared at the bottom of
the screen when I'd finished the level (5) telling me what new things have
been unlocked (some other stuff appeared when I went back and replayed the
earlier levels.) Strange thing is, I have zeros on my stats for Area 5.

Some of PDZ's 'cheats' appeared after a certain number of play-hours had
been clocked, not sure this is what happened though, I only played it for a
few hours on Friday and Saturday night.

Where is this apparent information about the frame rates of the different
versions? I haven't played the PS2 version, only the DC one, but it plays
absolutely fine. I haven't seen any sort of slowdown or jerkiness and
certainly nothing that has made me thing, hmm, I wonder if it would be
better on the PS2?

It plays fine, but it's definitely at 30fps. You can tell by looking (plus
I've seen it mentioned in an interview with the developers).
