Okay, time for those who've gotten browser disks off me to give me a hand if
they feel like it... *8-)
I've got a problem!
I can't access the homepages etc. from within games. It connects okay,
logs in to my ISP (Demon) okay, but always hangs at the 'Opening page'
prompts.
I've checked, just to make absolutely sure, that the network is okay from
Demon to the web site.
I've also deleted the DNS settings (i.e. back to 0.0.0.0) and removed the
web proxy.
Still no joy!
This seems to mean I can't sign up with the Daytona USA 2001 Netbattle
registration, which means I can't play on-line.
*8-(
I'm in a right pickle 'ere. Anyone got any advice?
Ta-ra,
Julie

I was going to suggest the proxy. Make sure you _delete it all_, setting
'proxy used' parameter to "no" doesn't work - it still uses it (!) That's
why I had problems getting the key for daytona.
Set the AT value to AT&F0 - the default - otherwise it hangs when
initialising modem. Set blind dialling on. Erm, that's everything I've had
problems with.
Also, can you surf the web using the US browser disk?
Interesting. Actually, I've deleted the contents of the proxy, but still
no joy.

Yep.

Ta-ra,
If you don't get this sorted, I wonder if it would be possible for me to
email you a key file? They aren't unique or anything, just a file that
stores your username and password on sega's website. So the server can keep
your racin' stats up to date. I can try this later, but you'll probably need
a web-based email account.
The set up goes like this:
load daytona
select homepage, get keyfile, it connects... or doesn't in your case
sign up at sega.com with all your details (which I can make up, if need be)
click on a link that says "download keyfile" it saves it to the VMU.
select Net Battle, select the VMU with the key file on.
Choose a name that is displayed when in the game - nothing to do with your
key file!
So if I do steps 1-4 and email you the file via the US browser, you'll be
able to race :-)
Thanks for the offer. However, unless I work out how to sort this out, I'm
going to keep walking into brick walls, besides I would not be the least bit
surprised if each registration is tied to a particular DC or something!
Is it possible to completely clear away your Dreamkey settings, and do them
again from scratch, just in case that'll help? It might also help to clear
the settings and then try the original/UK one with the Sega ISP, 'cos if
that doesn't work then there's really something wierd-a-happening.
However, if it does work, then I should in theory slowly be able to work out
what's going wrong!
If I clear my Dreamkey settings temporarily, will that in anyway hurt PSO
(as that uses the DC internal memory doesn't it?)
'elp!
It definitely isn't - US folk have been emailing each other keys. Well,
you're right, you need to sort it - give a man fish and you feed him for a
day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a life time and all that...

Yes! to clear all dreamarena settings (yet, bizarrely not the proxy, "arse
biscuits"!) load the disc, go to "modem" then hunt around in the setiings -
it's in there somewhere

Try connecting via PC to daytona.web.dreamcast.com - u never know, the
server *may* be down?

nope - the PSO stuff is all tied to the VMU - the serial number of your DC
may be registered online, but this is impossible to wipe. I have wiped my
ISP settings a few times in the last week trying to sort *exactly* the
problem you have.

:-( well, my offer of emailing still stands (and to anyone who's having
probs)
l8r,
Q.
Right. Well...
>Yes! to clear all dreamarena settings (yet, bizarrely not the proxy, "arse
>biscuits"!) load the disc, go to "modem" then hunt around in the setiings -

Yep, found it, did it (a few times.)

Nope. It isn't.

Well in the end. I blanked the US Browser config and went to the original
DreamKey disk. Using settings configured using that version of DreamKey I
was able to use the Daytona disk to get the Daytona key file.
They blanking it out and reconfiguring using the US Browser disk, I got back
to a free network connection.
Basically, from this end...
...if you configure your network setup using a "new" version of the Browser
Disk (i.e. US Browser v2.606) then anything based on the old Browser disk
(i.e. the UK DreamKey and the versions on the game disks) doesn't appear to
work (running the games networked does, just not using the browsing
functions on those disks!)
