Can anyone confirm the exact dates for the English Nationals?

On the calender it's down as on the 19th and 20th of April, but I've
heard rumours that they've had to bring it forward to the 12th & 13th.
Can somebody confirm or deny this as GP Prague is on that weekend and
I'd like to know whether I can go ahead and book a flight.

Cheers

Hi Prof,

I am running the English Nationals and all other TCG's at GenCon this
year and I can confirm that the English Nationals is tabled as
follows:-

18th April Last Chance National Qualifiers
19th April Nationals Day 1 - Standard
20th April Nationals Day 2 - Rochester Draft
21th April National Finals - Standard

And as I have the chance to go on about GenCon there is also going to
be:-

8 Slots for PT Yokohama over 6 PTQ's all with cash for slot winners.
Team Event
Classic Nationals
and 10th Aniversary specials

Cheers

Carl, any reason you're swapping the draft and
Standard days around this year?

Last year and the two years before we did the draft
on the Saturday. As most people are crashing Saturday
night it means that it can go on for a bit and overrun and
people will still be OK.

If we run the draft on Sunday some players will have
to do 6 rounds, 2 drafts and may miss any transport
they had planned if they wanted to go back for monday.

Plus, is there any good reason why the tourney is
running over _three_ days. Sure, last year when
it was massive it made sence, but this year a lot
less players will qualify and rolling it out over
three days seems a little over the top for the poor
buggers who make top-8 *grin*.

Just my twopenneth :-)

Jim.

Overheads are lower if you run the Rochester on day 2, as people will
drop.

They can drop. Or, if they are in contention for top 8, then they
should have really thought about staying that extra night ;-).

Nationals is at Gencon. Gencon runs for a longer period than Nationals
usually does. I'm not sure if the less people qualifying thing will
actually be that true. As grinders will also be at Gencon, there will
be loads of players there who wouldn't normally have travelled to
Nationals to grind, because they are just there for the whole Gencon
thing. Therefore the grinders may well be packed out (plenty of
slots). Plus we received a whole zero slots from grinders last year
with all that Jubilee tosh going on.

In past years entry to Nationals has been free so will all the
competitors be given free entry to Gencon this year?

My guess is that they are following the format similiar to last year's
US nationals: It "discourages" people who go 6-0 in the draft on day
one to play a safe T2 deck on day two and go 3-0-3 or something like
that....

Or maybe it's going to be the same as the rest of Europe anyway.

As I said, it's a guess.....

Standard is the preferred format for day 1 of 3-day events.
At the end of the day, you will have a better picture of what the "best
Standard deck/metagame" is than if you run Standard on day 2, influenced by
the draft results.

Most Nationals in Europe will (sadly) have Standard day 1 this year. For
2-day events, it's much better to have the draft portion on day 1, so you
don't have a 7 hour day 1 and a 14 hour day 2... you rather want to have 10
+ 11 hours of play, and you avoid finishing ungodly late on Sunday.
