I am pleased to announce that the 2003 Scottish Nationals will take place in
Livingston at the West Lothian College, on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May.
· Day 1 (3rd May) will be standard (Type 2)
· Day 2 (4th May) will be Rochester Draft (Onslaught/ Onslaught/
Legions)
· Day 3 (5th May) will be the Top 8 Playoff using the same Standard
(Type 2) decks as Day 1.
For players not participating in the Top 8 on the 5th May there will be a
chance to participate in the Team Pro Tour Qualifier, where there is the
possibility of qualifying for Pro Tour Boston and the chance to win £1000.
There will also be the opportunity to play in various side events throughout
the three days, please contact the tournament admin team throughout the
event for more information.
The Decision to host three-day event was not taken lightly but it is our
intention to build the Scottish Nationals to be 'the' Premier Event held in
Scotland each year. The opportunity that the Bank Holiday provides enables
us to have a three-day event in 2003 as out first step to raising the
profile of the Scottish Nationals. A move to a three-day event also allows
the top 8 to be played in a much more relaxed atmosphere without any time
pressures.
Invitations to all invited players should be going out towards the end of
this week. If you have not yet qualified and would still like to participate
then there will be the chance to qualifier through Last Chance Qualifiers on
Saturday 3rd May, details of these events will follow. I look forward to
seeing you all at this year's Scottish Nationals

Well thanks for listening and totally disregarding the views of
Scottish players.
I understand that WOTC want to ensure this is a high profile event and
takes the same format as the others but there are major flaws in the
plan.
The Monday in question for Day 3 of the nats may well be a bank
holiday, but the majority of businesses and organisations in Scotland
have their May holiday at the end of the month (the 26th).
Given that there may well be people unable to make the 3rd day, what
will happen if these players are in the top 8. Byes for people in the
top 8 would make the event look ridiculous and seem like a really bad
way to decide on your worlds team.
There is still a really strong feeling about this in Scotland as you
well know and it seems that our concerns have been totally overlooked
and many questions left unanswered.
