I had a quick glance at this at Dragonmeet. Clearly designed for
newcomers to role-playing, with lots of explanations and photo-heavy
presentation, but looked like a pretty decent little system at the core
of it all. Anyone had a closer look?

No, but I've got a standard worry coming on - Doctor Who is fundamentally
about one or two people. It's going to run into the same problem as the
old James Bond game.

I think RPG licences tend to do better when they're based on a show that
was more about a group... team... hell, a party of characters.

Although at times DW has featured a reasonable number of companions to
form a group. Doctor + 3 companions is a reasonably sized party. Even
in the new series we have seen the Doctor's group get up to 3 or 4 a
few times. Doctor + Martha + Donna + Jenny in The Doctor's Daughter
for example. SJA has a party aspect to things as does Torchwood.

Some of the problems with Doctor Who roleplaying are
a) party splits - this is quite common on the show and easy to deal with
in written or televisual fiction. Not so good for roleplaying but
doable.
b) non-violence. Yes I know you can run purely investigative games but
some players definitely see violence as a solution. Playing a Torchwood
or UNIT oriented game would help here.

Anyway I haven't seen the game yet - it is on my Christmas prezzie list.
