Open up your Q3config.cfg in your /baseq3 folder.
Inside, delete any lines that make reference to 'weapprev' and 'weapnext'.
Save it, and start Quake.
Rebind the wheel buttons to suit your Weapon Up/Down needs.

The problem is sometimes you, or even the game will bind a key to another
function and not update the q3config.cfg file, which confuses Quake3 when
your playing. It's happened to me once, and the above solved my problem.

There are known issues with Mice an Quake3

I would suggest that anyone with 3 button &,or wheel mouse DON'T use the
supplied drivers ,windows 98 and explorer can see these mice without there
own drivers
Anytime a tried to use supplied drivers I had loads of probs with games etc

Don't know about anyone else... but I found that problems with key bindings
is actually a bug in the code. For example... I couldn't get the mouse wheel
to work for cycling weapons... without actually quitting the game after
changing the settings. i.e. change the key bindings to what you want (e.g.
mousewheel up/down for cycle weapons).. then QUIT the game..... then
restart.... seems to bind them then. Whenever I tried to change the key
settings for the wheel and then enter the game directly it didn't work....

Hope that helps...

I dunno. I use a logitech cordles mouse w/ wheel, and it works great!
(i simply cannot stand playing Q3 without the wheel. Under Windows NT,
the wheel would not work). On Win98SE it works great.

I got up/down to do prev/next weapon. (or next/prev. whatever).

I have a similar set-up and some problems with the IEmouse wheel. I found
that if I enter the set-up option an the first menu that Q3A presents, I can
set-up the mouse wheel to previous and next weapon. If I enter the set-up
option later on in the game, it won't work.
Last time I also re-booted after doing the changes. Seems to work fine now.

I had similar problems.... i.e. binding the mouse wheel didn't seem to
work.... until that is you reboot. i.e. change the key bindings to what you
want.... then *exit* the game and restart.... seems to bind things fine if
you do this. If you continue playing right after changing some of the key
bindings it seems to get confused...
