A quick mention for Chorlton Beer and Cider Festival 2019: <http://chorltonbeerfestival.org.uk/>. That's Chorlton-cum-Hardy in south Manchester, and the festival is held in the grounds of St Clement's Church. This year the dates are Thursday 11th, Friday 12th and Saturday 13th July, and tickets are on sale now.

Limited tickets are available for a tutored cider tasting event on the Saturday: <https://chorltonbeerfestival.org.uk/cider-tasting-2019/>.

As ever, there'll be a diverse range of beers, ciders and perries, but also the brand new [and off topic...] Vicar’s Gin Bar. There's lots of food too from a variety of local street food vendors.

I'd love to go because my Mum was born in Chorlton.

It is on the Manchester tram nowadays.

It is indeed. The tram stop is about 10 minutes walk from the church.

Chorlton is well worth a visit at any time - it has a huge number of bars and free houses, with nearly every single one offering cask ale from innovative independent breweries. The range of beers is astonishing.

I've not been; but I'd imagine that trendy bars (albeit selling RA) would
be pricey. Heh, even the Grey Horse (or wassit the Circus Tav?) sells
Tetley at a premium these days. Hare & Hounds, Shudhill seemed to be one
of a few proper pubs left selling beer at a reasonable price.

And you would be correct. Typically in the range from three pound fifty to four pound a pint. If you want cheap round Manchester, go to Stockport or Stalybridge. If you want dirt cheap, go to Eccles or Leigh.

Back when I was willing to pay good money to Arriva Trains, myself and a
drinking companion choose to tour Stockport, rather than bother looking
at prices in Manchester. We did manage to get to a fine Holt's building
(Lamb Hotel) in Eccles. Salford was awful, desolate and yet pricey.
Further back, I first went to the Derby Arms, Cheetham Hill when I read
it had the cheapest pint in Britain (Holt's Mild: 86p?).

I don't think I've ever been to Leigh; I see it as a spoon, European
food, and a lot of shutters.

There is a rather decent real ale trail in Leigh, with about a dozen pubs at convenient intervals along a fairly straight road. It used to be available as a pdf file on the local CAMRA branch's website but seems to have disappeared. Still available in paper format but then you really need to be in Leigh to pick it up. Or you could look at the online guide - <https://southeastlancs.camra.org.uk/viewnode.php?id=41141> and zoom in on Leigh Road. Decent beers at decent prices from mostly local breweries.

For added excitement, Leigh is linked to Salford and Manchester by Guided Bus, which is, different...

If I went up there I would probably pay one visit to a temperance pub.
