Got some vouchers for a Northern Rail go anywhere for Ł10 offer so on
Saturday planning a long trip which will basically be Hebden
Bridge-Leeds-Carlisle-Whitehaven-Foxfield-Lancaster-Preston-Hebden Bridge.
Got a fair amount of time in Foxfield 1451-1730 by the looks of it.

But the question is do they do any food and will there be anything on
Saturday afternoon. If not is there anywhere else with walking distance
Their website is not very clear, It looks like they are having an event
for St Patrick's day but there are no times - I'm assuming thats at night.

Food at Foxfield will be on and is exceptional. Really tasty home
prepared pasties with amazing fillings, mushy peas my fave. Home-made
bread for sandwiches. I've been six times this year already!

Whitehaven beer festival, just up the line, also on. You could grab
both. Festival about 5 mins walk from Corkickle station, if that!

Very nice festival Chris. Nice to have all the beers on handpump and a
sensible pricing policy. A nice glass too - now behind the bar in Midgehole
Club having contained several pints of Chinook yesterday.

The Prince of Wales was busy with and Irish Group on. Had a couple of pints
then headed south on the 1730 train. We had to leave on that one because it
is the only train that Northern operate between Lancaster and Preston.

The food looked good but we were too late. So the day was rounded off with
a good curry in Preston whilst changing trains. Back in Hebden Bridge at
2151 dead on time. I recon we did 335 miles for our £10 which can't be bad.

Now for Nottingham on the 31st...

Just out of interest, what's a "sensible priving policy"? I know from
the feedback from the (non-CAMRA) festival we hold here in Lancaster
that the non-returnable glass at a fiver is a bit of a put off for some
people.

Well what I was referring to was the fact that they were all £2.60 without
the extra 5p/10p or whatever that you sometimes see at Beer Festivals

Robinsons Old Tom was £2.60 for less than a pint (think it was a half or a
third) but it remained the same price.

I think £5 (non refundable) for a glass is expensive , though it depends on
the price of entry to some extent.

----------
Up here you pay ten pounds to get in, for which you get a glass
(non-returnable) and a fiver in token, which unfortunately isn't
enough to buy yourself two pints of anything.

I have raised this once or twice with the organisers because I think
it creates a slight impression of a bit of a money-grab. Even if one
is likely to spent a tenner or more in the course of a night I think
people want to choose how to do that. Your prices sound much more
reasonable, but then Lancaster is something of an anomaly for its
prices, which for some reason are higher than neighbouring towns.

This is totally against CAMRA policy so I hope your branch does not
help out in any way - or if individual members do, I hope they do not
allow CAMRA's name to be associated.

Some of us cupboards full of glasses and really do not want any more!

Many CAMRA members attend of course, but the festival tends to use
their own help - mainly young girls in tight black miniskirts and shorts
chosen for their in-depth knowledge and appreciation of mild, bitter
and stout.

Mine too. There's only so many you can use.

Indeed! I now refuse to go to festivals where I cannot return the glass. I
really cannot face being forced to buy yet another glass I don't want.
