Having been a classroom assistant in a primary school with computer classes
I would advance the following:-

We need to learn one technique children use that we have lost.

An adult says "I wonder what that does" and tries to find out in advance.
A child says "I wonder what that does" and presses the button.

Yes. Well there is an element of "live dangerously". I don't know whther
kids have special guardian angels to ensure they survive or its nature's
way of ensuring that only the ones who've sussed out the situation
adeqately pass on their genes.

Was it a very large magnetic button?
There aren't often single buttons that can cause that much deletion.

An adult knows he'll have to buy an expensive new one if he breaks it.
