I didn't realise that you'd tried the FB group, I can't recall seeing
anything from you there.
A usenet group can't be migrated to FB. A UK food and drink biased
group was created on FB and anyone can request membership. One of the
benefits of a FB group is that posts can be moderated in several ways
and disruptors can be removed; there is zero unpleasantness in the FB
group. There are no trolls.
FB has one other huge advantage over usenet in that photos can be
included in a post. I haven't worked out the exact percentage of
'threads' containing a photo but it is certainly a majority.
I'm certainly no fan of FB as an organisation but simply accept that for
free access to discussion groups they will gain a little data about me.
However, it's not difficult to keep that as little as possible.
Everything we do nowadays tells some computer somewhere what we're
doing. My credit card records my location at gas stations, hotels etc.
Loyalty cards may give rewards but they those rewards are in return for
data about you. Unless you're a hermit there's no way of avoiding it
nowadays.
