Every so often, the display goes blank and with a sharp tap of the finger on
the unit casing it returns but he has to reset the time.
Is there a battery in this unit and if so:
a.. How do I get into the unit without using a lump hammer.
b.. If I have to replace the timer for him, is there a wiring diagram inside
the EP2000 so that I can marry the wiring upto a new controller.
Regards,
Jim
Use a screwdriver in the notch in the centre of the long side at the
bottom. The unit hinges up at the top and comes completely off the
backplate.
There is a rechargeable NiCd/Nimh pack which you may find a replacement
for. GIYF.
There is a wiring diagram, yes. Very standard arrangement.
Prolly better to buy a new controller.

The battery would only come into play when the mains failed or the unit
was totally powered down - not how these units are normally wired.
More likely is a dry joint somewhere if tapping it makes things work
again. But unless skilled at fault finding such things, probably easier to
just replace it.

If no obvious fixing screws there's usually a latch you push with a
screwdriver which allows it to hinge away and off. Look for a slot or
slots in the bottom.

There's really not usually much to these things - a line and neutral feed,
and switched outputs for heating and hot water. But my old one (not a
Potterton) did have a basic wiring diagram inside. But I'd guess a bit of
Googling would find full installation instructions for most makes.

To e-mail, change noise into sound.
Once you get it open the battery needs replacing. It's probably
soldered in.
You can get them from http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=30958
From memory it's the BN22Y.
I have an old EP3000 in the Garage (EP2000 with 7 day timer) which has
had the battery replaced and will happily send you for a consideration
equivalent to a few beers plus postage.
