I'm generally wary of non mainstream manufacturers having been bitten by B&Q tat once or twice but the Erbauer twin Li-ion kit (drill driver and impact driver) looks very tempting at Screwfix's price.

How do any of the other non mainstream tools rate ?

Any opinions ?

I once bought a fake Makita 18v cordless from a cold caller. At the time €100 was cheap as chips so I knew I wasn't getting the real Mc Coy but thought I'd just take a punt anyway. It lasted for 8 or 9 years before the batteries gave out.

I have had a Erbauer drill driver for a few years now and despite a lot of punishment has always been great. Came with 2 quick charge batteries which gives you continual usage if you need it. Nicely weighted too and you can stand it easily on the battery without it falling over. My previous one was a B+D and was not a patch on this one. Battery died quickly, then died completely, then charger died.... Erbauer still going strong

AIUI, Erbauer is exclusive to Screwfix. I guess they own the brand name,
and use it to re-badge various bought-in items - not all of which come
from the same manufacturer.

Having said that, I've bought several Erbauer-branded items, and they've
been ok - not top notch, but ok for DIY use.

I have the half inch router which is not that good mechanically
(although the soft start and variable speed controls are good)

Be warned

I have an Erbauer drill driver that worked very well for 2-3 years. Then
the NICADs failed.
By then Screwfix had changed the battery pack shape & no longer sold the
old shape.

OK for DIY if you accept that spare batteries are not available.
