Hate the name? That's Toughsheet! Bolton fans are OUTRAGED by 'awful' new naming rights deal for stadium, with building product manufacturer agreeing five-year contract from July with League One side
The University of Bolton Stadium will be the Toughsheet Community Stadium
By MICHAEL RUDLING FOR MAILONLINE, 20 Feb 2023

Bewildered Bolton Wanderers supporters have slammed the new name for the club's stadium on social media after a deal was struck with recyclable building product manufacturer, Toughsheet.

The ground, which opened in 1997 with the now-iconic Reebok Stadium name, has been named after the University of Bolton since 2018 but will change again this summer.

Bolton announced on Sunday they have agreed a five-year naming rights deal with Toughsheet, a building product company local to the town. The club says it is 'the largest sponsorship deal' in their history.

But fans were quick to vent their anger on Twitter, as they called the new Toughsheet Community Stadium moniker 'awful' and reminded the club 'it's not April 1'.

Others said that the name 'could not be real' and that the ground would 'forever be the Reebok.'

One irate fan added: 'I hope we're getting serious money for this because this might be one of the meme-iest names you could've given it.'

Founded in Bolton in 1968, Toughsheet make useable building products from recycled materials and 'are the number one producer of ecological damp proof membrane'.

They employ over 85 people from their base in Westhoughton, located just four miles from the stadium.

In the announcement, Bolton said they met with 20 companies who were interested in a naming rights deal but 'it was clear straight away' that Toughsheet's executives 'live and breathe Bolton'.

Although it hasn't been the ground's official name since 2014, Bolton's stadium will still likely be referred to using Reebok's name.

I feel much the same way about the
Etihad stadium, Manchester City's ground.
It means United in Arabic. Who knew!

If your language is sophisticated enough to make the distinction.
