Magiglo Elite 16" gas fire - still legal to install?

Just taken out a Magiglo Elite 16" gas fire with coals.

It was working when we first moved here a few years back but we rarely
used it and now we are clearing out the fireplace.

It seems to have come out O.K. and should be in full working order - needs
one of the coal supports replacing but Google shows hits for spares.

So is it O.K. to offer this on Freegle for someone else to have installed,
or is it now illegal as a new install and need scrapping?

The chimney wasn't lined.

I had expected a single skin SS liner with a gas fire.

Are there 'mock coal' fires so profligate with the heat they throw up the
chimney that they don't need one?

The old one threw about 80% of the heat up the chimney.

Add in the air needed and they probably ran at a net loss of heat.

I've got one and agree that they throw a lot of heat away.

What is a sensible alternative. My flue is made of cast inner wall blocks -
no liner.
As the wall is an exterior one - would it be best to convert to a balanced
flue sealed type of fire?

I have aMagiglo Elite 16 and I agree most of the heat goes up the chimney. However it is a very nice fire to sit at and looks like a real fire.
Is there anything on the market that would be more efficient and lookalike.?

My name is Rose Reynolds. There is a Magiglo Elite gas fire in my house, which was here when l purchased the house. It is working fine,but I have a problem in switching it on due to back injury. As it is manually controlled I find when I get down to switch it on, I find it extremely difficult to get up from the floor. Well, I'm not sure, but really this is one for maybe a specialist company. I
know a number of disabled people ask on such lists and get better service as
the clients in that group all have had similar issues of gear you need to
operate from higher or lower levels.

Gazco do gas fires that have remote controls which would be ideal
for someone in her condition.
