Newbie Question -- I hope that this is the correct group. Apologies if not.

To help settle a long running argument with a friend. Does anyone happen to
know when and where the first IKEA store opened in the UK? If it was not the
Brent location, then when did the Brent store open?

Thanks in advance

1987, according to the IKEA web site.

I thought the Brent Park store was the first, but have no evidence
to prove this. I have a 1989 catalogue which lists Brent Park
and Warrington only, so one of these must have been the first.

I had a quick look there, but didn't see any historical information. However,
I was living in the North London area when the store on the North Circular
opened, and am fairly sure it *was* the first in the country.

Yes, it was definitely Warrington. I lived in NW London and drove to Warrington
(384 mile round trip) to buy some wardrobes before the Brent Park store opened.

I lived 7 miles from Brent Park ;-).

I have 1989 catalogue and several other references.
Definitely the Warrington branch in 1987, then Wembley.

We had this very recently, deja is bound to have it. It was nailed by a chap
who lived adjacent to the Brent store site but travelled up to Warrington
to get some kit before it (Brent) opened.
