For Brian.

It's some kind of sensor that seem to detect a leak and send you
an alert on your phone.

How come it doesn't treat all water usage as a leak, including
when you are having... a leak ?

Never mind water, can it detect a leak of snake oil?

I presume it looks for hours long water usage, rather than a few seconds
when you have a piss?

A few weeks ago, two blokes wearing Souther Water fluorescent jackets
were lifting a selection of water meter covers where I live and dropped
little metal capsules into them on top of the meter. Being nosy I
went out to find out what they were doing. The little capsules
were for detecting leaks apparently, which they checked after
retrieving them a few days later.

Andrew explained :
They probably listen to the noise from flowing water, the flow will not
normally be continuous, unless there is a continuous leakage. Another
way would be to listen to the tick of a water meter, which should stop
completely for long periods of no water use.

I would imagine it just “listens” to the pipes and picks up continuous flow
through the night say.

From the horse's mouth:

: How does LeakBot work?
:
: It’s not magic, it’s science. LeakBot’s patented Thermi-Q technology
: accurately measures both the air and water temperatures in your home. If you
: have a leak it will continually draw colder water from outside into your
: home, creating a consistent drop in temperature. LeakBot can sense the
: prolonged and consistent drop in temperature and alerts you to the problem.

That’s bullshit at times.

Wrong

I have never heard of one before.
I guess they would only be able to do so if all taps are off.

I have. The local council said they would be doing it.

Nope, the other approach is to check if it never
goes to zero, if it doesn’t, there must be a leak.

It probably works as well as those magnetic scale removers that you
attach to the incoming water pipe,
