Hiya I was wondering if anybody could help me, I have a calor gas fire and I've just bought a new gas bottle and it's the 1st time it's been used in over a year, the pilot light is lit and it's is working on setting 2 and 3. But not lighting the middle brick (setting 1) is it still safe to use and does anybody know how I can fix this problem.
Thanks in advance
Laura

Did the centre element light on setting 1 when you last used it? It's quite
common for some of the elements to be turned off on low gas settings. If
it has a make and model name on it the instructions will be on the net
somewhere.

I'm not an expert but I have several of these fires.

If the gas bottle is very cold it can cause this problem. If you use the
fire on the other settings for a while it will probably come right.
Failing that the middle jet is contaminated. Unscrew it and clean it.

How old is this one? Leak so too much air getting in, low pressure, could
be so many things really.

Sounds like a regulator problem.

Caravan / Motorhome owners discovered a problem some years back due to the
rubber hose deteriorating and the plasticiser getting into the regulator.
It still happens on older ones - on newer ones the regulators are mounted
at the other end of the hose so any nasties don’t flow into them. Some
people fit stainless steel hoses.

LPG rubber hoses should be replaced every 5 years.

A new regulator isn’t that expensive - perhaps £5 to £8.
