Hi

I am going to do drilling, hammering nails etc. into the brickwork of
my house's interior walls. I need a cable detector but none of the
ones I have seen detect pipes/cables in BRICK. The majority say that
they only detect items behind plasterboard. Is this normal and if not,
is there one that people could recommend?

I originally bought the Stanley intellisensor Pro but that was one of
the ones that stated that it could not cope with brickwork.

Thanks
Tony

how deep are you expecting to find pipes and cables?

Hi Jim

I don't know but I'd be hammering nails at least an inch into the
wall.

Cables buried in brick? Do you mean chased and plastered over in a plastered
brick wall? If so my el cheapo cable and pipe locator easily finds them in a
plastered chase. It snot so reliable behind plasterboard as it picks up the
nails etc.

Hi Mike and thanks for getting back to me.

Well, if a cheap detector does the job that's great.

What I dont understand is why something like the one I originaly
bought (costing £30) made a point of saying that it could not detect
pipes/cables in brick?

Cheers

It means behind brick, as in inside the cavity

Hi

OK, thanks. It looks like I've either misread the warnings in the
Instructions or they didnt explain it properly.
Thanks everyone for responding to my question. All the best.
