hi

having a problem with a valliant 242e. to begin with, we had central
heating but no hot water. the diaphragm has been changed once a year for
the past 5 years so this time we have changed the diverter valve all
together.

boiler was recharged and worked perfectly for 24 hours.
new problem now is that the boiler will not light. we call for heat, the
pump and fan both start running, the ignition sparks for ten seconds but
no flame. boiler goes into lock out.

the gas solenoid was first thought to be faulty so we changed it but
made no difference. it must surely be a gas problem as the boiler goes
through the ignition sequence but never lights. gas has been purged and
the system has been fully bled of air.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Is there power getting to the solenoid during the ignition sequence? Could
be PCB problem.

Have you got a gas cooker, is that getting gas? You say you've purged
it, but is the gas getting through to the jets

Is the gas valve actually opening? Just because its new doesn't mean
it's working

Its such an old boiler (albeit a good one) I can't remember if the main
valve is 24 or 240v. I Think it's 240 and the modulation valve 24v
pneumatically controlled

So -do you have 240v across the main solenoid when you have a spark? (Do
check the manual to see that I'm correct). If not, then I would say that
its most likely to be the flame supervisory pcb (top board which has the
black cut out switch attached to it), part number 10-0542 or 10-0555,
else the loom wiring is the next suspect
