I went to watch Blondie on Thursday at Scarborough.

Debbie was brilliant.

I'd heard reports that the Glastonbury performance was a bit suspect so
pulled it up on i-player. Yes the first track or 2 were a bit weak on
vocals but when she, and presumably the sound engineer dialed in, the
rest of the set was great and vocals were better than Axel Roses' feeble
attempt which G 'n R was saved only by Slash. To my ears at least.

No better way to fuck a performance than failure to bribe the sound
engineer.

I dipped in and out of the TV coverage of Glastonbury and it wasn't just
DHs sound quality that was poor. The performances from quite a few
artist was marred by not being able to hear the lead vocals, at least at
the start of their set.

Maybe the mixer desk operator was deaf from attending too may rock concerts.

Maybe the main microphone was turned off so the artist could mime to the
their backing singers and then left that way for the next person on
stage :)

My review is "that Lou and I had a good night out and who cares that she
cannot hit all the high notes any more?". She's the same age as my Mum

I didn't think there was much difference in DH's voice at the Isle of
Wight a week before and her Glastonbury performance. It was perhaps a
little quieter in the first couple of songs, but as you point out Axl
Rose wasn't exactly loud, and he's 17 years younger than her! Perhaps
both their mikes hadn't been set up properly, as the backing vocals
seemed ok to me.

Against that, I thought Elton John's voice was pretty good considering
he's only a couple of years younger than DH, and there was very little
weakness in his vocals.

I think one of the issues on live outdoor stages is in fact hearing your own
band.
