I'm trying to find a supplier of creosote at a reasonable price -
Wickes sell 25L of light or dark brown at L.20; decoratingdirect
only sell 4L containers, and their prices are very high; most
other places also only sell 4L containers. I need about 150L, and
don't mind keeping 50L or so, so a 45 gallon drum would be good.
Any info?

I would think the sort of places that farmers get stuff from, like Scats.

What about a specialist supplier of fencing?

Try Bird Brand ( http://www.birdbrand.co.uk/ ).

They sell on line in up to 25 Litre sizes.

Worth stocking up on the real stuff before the EU creosote ban comes
into force, however big your fence is.

When is this appalling ban expected to come into force? Is
the date known yet?

July, 2003. However, it seems that only the sale of small
quantities will be affected - 20L sizes will still be
available. I hope this *is* the case. Poxy eec/eu, anyway.

Atlantic do huge containers of it, not sure if it's on their website
( http://www.atlanticcountrysuperstore.co.uk ) but it was
definitely in a leaflet I got through the post from them the other
day. Website appears to be down at the moment, though.:-(

It is as lethal a substance as you could ever use. Just read the label
and do some research. Good for railroad tiles a million miles from
civilization. I bought a small can of it to cover posts to go below
ground level. Wicked stuff. I regret even buying the stuff. Best left
on telephone poles.

And your reasons for purchase it is?

Umm... if creosote were non-toxic then it wouldn't be very useful.

I wonder how many people have died or been made seriously ill due to
creosote poisoning.
