I need to replace the corner seal in a shower and have bought the silicone.
I seem to recall reading some time ago that it is a good idea to prepare the
area by wiping it with methylated spirit. However, I can't find any
reference to this in DIYWiki.
Any ideas? Do I need anything in order to improve the bond?

I always wipe the area first with white spirit to get rid of all the gunk /
soap etc.

You can get a silicone rubber dissolver to remove all traces of the previous
silicone - I think I've seen it in the Screwfix cat. Make sure that you have
got a real top quality sanitary grade silicone, and clean down thoroughly
with a solvent like meths or IPA before applying new silicone, otherwise, in
a shower, it *will* leak ... Trust me - I've got the tee shirt ! As a matter
of interest, I've found that the clear silicone seems to be a more robust
product with better 'stiction' than the white equivalent, and it's a lot
more visually forgiving when you make the inevitable balls up whilst trying
to make your new bead look nice ...

Well I probably wrote that somewhere: it's certainly what I always do!
