I tend to use my iPad to access uk.d-i-y using Google Groups but the recent infestation has highlighted the shortcomings of using Google Groups.

I have signed up to Eternal September but find I have little choice for the iPad when it comes to newsreaders. Has anyone got any recommendations especially when it comes to filtering out the dross?

I've been using Turnpike since about 1997! Now on W7 so 32 bit.

I'm no geek but there is an active newsgroup at

Quick search shows this:

https://mobile.clauss-net.de/NewsTap/
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/newstap-usenet-newsreader/id292410356

I don't know if it is any good as I don't use ios.

Um, but that doesn’t run on an iPad. I use NewsTap. Sadly its filtering
capabilities are pretty basic but as long as I keep updating it with the
trolls’ latest keywords, it does a fair job of controlling the tide of
crap.

NewsTap is really the only viable news reader for ithings.

Works well enough but is irritatingly slow downloading new posts.

Not really that well up on iDevice apps, but the situation on Android
also seemed fairly poor last time I looked.

Slightly facetious answer:

Run Thunderbird on a PC, and then use RDP (or other remote control
protocol of choice) to let the iPad remotely access the PC :-)

Better but more "difficult" answer:

(or run a news proxy on your network, set that to do filtering, and
point the iPad at the local proxy news server).

Yes. Momentary brain failure.

Sadly one of an increasing number.
