Hope someone can please help me out there!
I have a switchmaster 3-port valve that has the following five wires:
Blue, White, Orange, Yellow and Red.

All of the example wiring diagrams I've seen for other valves have
connections to the following four "standard" wires:
Blue, White, Orange and Grey.

Can anyone please tell me how to connect up a switchmaster in a
typical Y-Plan system? (Or some sort of conversion table from standard
to switchmaster)

Many Thanks - Kevin

IT IS VERY DIFFICULT. You would be advised to purchase a new set which
includes a clock, 3 way valve , stats and a wiring centre

I think I have a cct diagram for the actuator head (Is it a VA1, VA5 or
what ?). I might even be able to locate a wiring diagram. The
Switchmaster actuators have a continuous unidirectional motor as opposed
to the other
(Satchwell) actuator you are referring to - which has a motor and return
spring arrangement. Ring me tomorrow on 01923 229224 early afternoon,
and I'll see what I can dig out

I certainly will take you up on your kind offer Raden.

I'm not certain what particular model it is - I'm doing a "favour" for
a relative.
There were no obvious markings on the actuator, simply the name
"Switchmaster".
It's blue (please don't shoot me down in flames!), and it's a
mid-position 3-port valve.

A cct diagram will certainly do the job, so if anybody has one to
hand, it would be most appreciated.

Speak to you later Raden - Kevin

Thanks to Paul Worsley, I now have the answer I needed (so, I won't be
hassling Raden over the phone - cheers)

If anyone is interested, I've copied Paul's reply ("Switchmaster
answer") below:
(Quote)
Was just tidying up and came across the info

Red live to boiler and pump
Orange HW on
White HW off
Yellow CH on
Blue N
G/Y Earth

Personally, I would rip the thing out (which you will have to do one
day!)
and put in a Y plan.
(End Quote)

I totally agree with Paul, but it's not my system and I'm just trying
to help out a relative.

Once again, cheers everyone.
Only found this group yesterday, and am now a firm favourite.

Speak to all in the future hopefully - Kevin

I agree with the above - look on anything you do as a short term
solution. When the motor goes inside the head, you will have great
difficulty getting another one
