OT: where to buy loud "throw bangers", "bang snaps" or whatever they're called these days?

This seems very OT but it's for a slightly DIY application ... can
anyone recommend a supplier for extra-loud throw bangers? Amazon lists
"fun snaps", "devil bangers" and others but I need some reasonable bangs
rather than quiet clicks so, as always, a recommendation from experience
would be good.
Alternatively, if the fun police have stopped them being sold,
recommendations on how to make loud safe ones would also be appreciated.

Yep, that works.

Are these the things that look like a little white twist of paper? Throw
against wall to make go bang? I know a place in Colchester that sold
them, and probably still does, which may help if you're in that part of
the world. Not sure what RM would say about posting, these days.

Now illegal for consumer sale

As well as those mentioned you could try theatrical pyrotechnic suppliers or bird-scarer cartridges (but you'd probably need a licence).

I didn't describe them well - I was thinking of the sort that don't have
a fuse but that make a bang when thrown against a hard surface (maybe
based on fulmanate of mercury - but O level Chem was a long time ago)

I believe a licence isn't needed to buy theatrical pyros but that local
authority approval or notification is required before use - hence the
desire to use something without that requirement

That would make it loud but less reliable - I also want them to go off
when I walk on them.

I probably used a confusing description - I was thinking of the things
that go bang when thrown against a hard surface or jumped on - my
application is mainly the latter.

I thought you wanted something loud? I can't see those ever being
considered loud(*). The thunderflash is what I would consider loud:

(*) I guess you could take the compound out of the paper wraps and
put it in a stronger paper or as has been suggested tape up the
orginals. The loudness of the bang depends on how high the pressure
gets before the containment gives way.

Certainly looks like it, I haven't tried and I don't know if the ones
in the "retail" market are of military spec. Seems that paintballers
use them to create a "distraction". One put the willies up a load of
squadies in a camp during a mock combat excercise when they had got a
little too relaxed for the Colour Sargents likeing.

Hum, quite *BANG* Were's me pocket gone, oh and a bit of me leg...
