I am in desperate need of some help and advice.
I am replacing my kitchen, part of this work has involved removing the
old tiles from the plasterboard walls, and this is where the problems
have started!!
Removing the tiles has pulled the surface off of the plasterboard,
leaving a mizture of crumbling plasterboard and the cardboard
plasterboard face.
How do I deal with this, we are going to be tiliing over top of
this, can I fill the holes with plaster, and if so what type, and can I
just tile over the cardboard or should they be sealed with a PVA mix?
PLease don't tell me that I have to replace the plasterboard as that
is not an option!
Please help me!!
Regards
Ben
Sorry - the real answer is to replace the boards. If the face of the board
has been damaged and what is left has crumbled, vituallly all of the
strength has already gone and anything attached to or plastered over the top
is likely to fail very quickly.
Basically, once plasterboard has been directly tiled, there is no way to
remove the tiles without destroying the board.

I have made some further progress on this one.
Having a closer look at the walls, I discovered that the walls are
actually 2 layers of plasterboard (I assume that this is because it is
a common wall between houses).
I have therefore been able to patch the damaged areas with new
plasterboard.
The only problem that I am left with is the areas of plasterboard
where the cardboard front has partially ripped off, not all the way
through to the plaster but enough to leave a rough finish.
What should I use to seal this before tiling?
