Twin bomb attacks on a paramilitary force academy in north-west Pakistan
have killed 80 people, police say.
At least 120 people were wounded in the blasts at the training centre for
the Frontier Constabulary in Shabqadar, Charsadda district.
After early suspicions that one of the bombs was planted, police said both
blasts were suicide attacks.
The Pakistani Taliban said they carried out the attack to avenge the death
of Osama Bin Laden earlier this month.
-------------------------------------------
Sure they did... The Taliban wouldn't have bombed anyone otherwise...
Every attack now is going to be because OBL was killed because that's a good
way to shift blame for the consequences onto the West.
Absolutely... Welcome to the world of asymmetric warfare.
The problem is we all know "the US martyred an unarmed man...." so any
retaliation is just. As the US reports are so confused and
contradictory as they wanted to set up some myths for their own public
(used wife as a shield, refused to fight like a Real Man(tm) etc) they
have also set up some for AQ and others.

Oh yeah, if only we had left poor BL alone, we could have all lived in
peace & harmony !
The logic of zealots is not worth trying to define, they are a pure
cancer to humanity, and should always be treated as such.
I don't doubt it's dedicated to his memory, but _because_ of his death? I
don't buy it. The Taliban were only announcing the beginning of their
spring offensive 13 days ago. OBL was killed 12 days ago. The spring
offensive will have had plans and resources drawn up and reserved and
transported for it, OBL's killing came out of nowhere. What will more
likely have happened is that existing plans will have been carried out, but
now in OBL's name. It's psychological warfare.
I'm sure there will be revenge attacks, but I don't believe this was the
first. Even the Taliban will have to plan things.

The trouble is he's an unarmed man who's killed around 35,000 people if you
include all the battles AQ are invovled in (number from the High
Commissioner for Pakistan on Sky News today). What did he have to look
forward to if he were captured? Ultimately execution at the hands of the
US, possibly rendition to find out what he knew. OBL ended up as he
probably expected, a casualty in a war he chose to fight with the West, but
he was already a martyr to it long before he died. He lost at least the
last 10 years to it in any practical sense.
As I replied to Jesse, the Taliban had already announced that their spring
campaign had started (as of news reports from 30 April, one day before OBL
was killed). I think just considering this logistically, it's a lot more
likely that attacks that were already in the works will now be dedicated to
Bin Laden. That doesn't put them in the realm of 'revenge attack' to me,
more a 'memorial attack'. I'm sure true revenge attacks are coming though.

And GW Bush has *directly* killed over half a million.
GWB was the CiC and has a DIRECT chain of command OBL was nither.
> What did he have to look
>forward to if he were captured?
A fair trial.
> Ultimately execution at the hands of the

Well, yes, the US does ignore International Law, due process and uses
torture.
> OBL ended up as he
>probably expected, a casualty in a war he chose to fight with the West,
He did not "choose" to fight it any more than GW Bush did. Actually
that is not quite true.. The US did have options but decided to attack
and kill civilians which lead to 9/11
> but
>he was already a martyr to it long before he died.
Yes. A hero to many.
> He lost at least the
>last 10 years to it in any practical sense.
Nope.
>As I replied to Jesse,
Why bother? He does not listen.

Yes, Absolutely. The attacks were already planed. Yes they will be
dedicated to OBL...
>That doesn't put them in the realm of 'revenge attack' to me,
>more a 'memorial attack'.
I would agree. But they will be seen as "revenge" attacks by the
faithful and the US propaganda machine as required.
> I'm sure true revenge attacks are coming though.
Absolutely... And as he was killed by the US in Pakistan with the
anniversary of 9/11 coming up I expect they will want to do something
big in the USA.
If I were AQ I would set running several parallel but completely
unconnected strikes (unconnected to anything including the normal
channels). I would have had much of it in place already ready to go.
Then maybe run several in Late August the US would be looking for those.
It some get though OK but they will draw things away from the operations
already in place....
SO I would say the US in the Autumn is not the place to be. If they run
10 operations and all 10 get caught the FUD and paranoia the US suffers
from will paralyse them in a way it would not work in Europe.
If you recall 2 days after 7/7 there were major events held in London
and there was no drop in expected numbers. I think even the Royals went
walk about in a way GWB never could at any time.
