Was Spacedust really banned or is that a myth? Remember, it was that
vile-coloured crystalline powder stuff that crackled and exploded in your
mouth and one of the hardest things you could do at my school was to throw a
whole packet into your mouth and swallow it immediately, giving rise to
immense wind for some time afterwards.

Was this just my school then?
Jimmy Ridley ate a molehill for a bet there once, so maybe it's just that
school.......
Ahh happy days.....

Some schools probably did ban it - the result of putting a whole packet in
your mouth, then downing a whole can of coke might be misconstrued as an IRA
bomb attack.

It was also banned in some areas here in the U.S. as well.
The two brand names in the States were Pop Rocks or Cosmic Candy. Some
thought it was dangerous due to some Urban Legends. If you go to
www.snopes2.com, and search for "pop rocks" you can get the full story.

I now remember the brandname I used to have as a kid - "Fizzwizz". The primary
school I went to took all their 4th year juniors to Bradwell for a week, and I
remember a load of us eating packet upon packet of this stuff by the swimming
lake as if it was its own food group.

Also there were those dispensing machines, kinda like giant gumball machines,
but with hollow plastic balls which would contain a present that was too
dangerous for a three year old, and too tacky for a four year old.

That reminds me of something that always makes me smile, whenever people
reminisce about their primary school days and are talking about someone it's
always their full name, ie. Amy Ryan, David Hilton, like we know who they
are. It only amuses me because when people talk about their current friends
or work colleagues, it's usually 'my mate' or 'my work colleague' never
'Pete Robinson who sits on the desk opposite me!'
I wouldn't mind but I do exactly the same thing and even know I am doing it
but don't know why!
Hmmm, that was a bit random...has anyone else ever noticed that or is it
just me?!

Fran.
