In the Danish language group, someone asked why
the word "kindergarten" is used in many anglophone
countries.

How did this come about? Why the German word for it?

Possibly because the tpye of school called a kindergarten was invented
in Germany (by Friedrich Fr�bel). That type of school was then copied in
other countries and the name "kindergarten" was used for them.
