Just had a read through the wikipedia page, and although I had half an eye
on the TV, I couldn't find much if any mention of Steve Ciarcia.

I found an online repository of Byte magazines - from the early days there's
very few missing issues, but the collection seems to get increasingly gappy
about the same time Ciarcia's Circuit Cellar disappears.

It seemed to go at about the same time as an increasing volume of letters
praising the column and saying it was pretty much the highlight of the
magazine!

Perhaps you could improve the page? I haven't read Byte for many years,
but his name is one of the two (along with Jerry Pournelle's) that come
to mind when I think of the magazine. (Even though I am very much a
software person rather than a hardware person.)

My knowledge on the subject is at least as full of holes as the repository
of magazines I found online.

I'm afraid not.

Out of idle curiosity, how many years ago did I make the post to which
you were replying.

No idea. I recently subscribed to this group and there weren't that many
posts so I read 'em all.

According to the listing I see, it was 7th March 2013. Not long ago for
those who still have a functioning memory. Not me, Guv...

<ting> Group. I bet you've subscribed via google groups, not realising
this is a newsgroup (nntp). Google don't seem to show dates on their
system - I've seen replies to stuff 10 years old.

No, I'm not that old, I'm even older :-)

Joking apart, my vintage computer history is ICL1900 Fortran 66 in 1969
during
first year at Uni; PDP-11 assembler in vac job 1971, PDP-8e as the subject
matter
for both hardware and software courses in final year at Uni, then 10 more
years
of PDP-11 assembler.

1973 was the start of my homebrew CPU, TTL, 8-bit, own instruction set, and
I
felt really well off to have 128 bytes of semiconductor RAM!
