I visited The Micro Museum in Ramsgate today:

https://www.vintageapplemac.com/the-micro-museum-at-ramsgate-in-kent-uk/

A neat little place to add to your list of days out, and bang in the middle
of town too so easy to loop in with the beach, harbour and other Ramsgate
delights. Their Games Gallery area is closing next week (31st) and folding
back into the main museum, so if you have time with the kids to kill next
Saturday or Sunday here’s your answer.

Apparently not, you replied.

STC has often said which groups he thinks ought to exist and ought not
to exist.

I may be wrong but my records suggest we are looking at years rather
than days or months since this group last had a good conversation.

It has occurred to me that I don't know who Huge is, I don't recall him
(probably, women tend not to call themselves that) having a positive or
prominent posting record in this ng.

So what?

Given the limited number of people interested in vintage computers, it
may not have moved anywhere. I certainly don't recall ever seeing a
"heads up" from anyone saying that they had created a forum for the
subject. (And even forums seem to increasingly be viewed as being old
hat nowadays, having largely given way to Facebook, Twitter and - most
recently - Discord.)

Well the Computer Conservation Society (www.computerconservationsociety.org) is
very active in this area. Perhaps it should raise its head in here from time to
time.

Thanks for the link. I was interested to see under "Next Events":

The History of ICL Revisited
September 19th 2019 - London

I might have gone to that, having used the ICL 1900 series and 2900
series at work over many years, but unfortunately I'll be abroad on
holiday.

I’m just starting to dip my toe into Discord; so far it seems to be a
slightly fancier IRC. Twitter is *fantastic* for retrocomputing, there’s a
few really good accounts with a lot of followers that generate excellent
content.

Then I have done the group a good turn in instigating this one! Cheers!

Damn. I'm tempted - but 14:30 in London basically means for me a whole
day by the time I've got there.

I started my career in ICL with 2900s with a meg or two of memory,
running at most 1MIP. At the other end I now have machines that sit on
my palm, have a gig or two of memory, and run in the gigahertz range...
and yet some things are just the same.

there are other things to do in London and affordable accommodation if
you plan ahead.

Chas is firmly Manchester, I admire that, other people like the rest of
the world.

I get much amusement from SF TV programmes and films made in the 1960s
supposedly featuring computers from hundreds of years in the future. One
always sees the computer occupying a large room, with banks of magnetic
tape drives with tapes whirring round. I suppose it was an easy way of
getting across to their audiences that what they were looking at was a
computer.

And however far in the future the film is set, the baddies still can't
shoot straight. Homing weapons seem to be unknown.
