I remember playing an elite-clone called U.I.M. on Archimedes when I was
a kid, but never finished it. It was a hard game, I remember the manual
even taunted the player - it said something like "send us a photo of
the end screen and you'll get a certificate.".

It turns out it's also a really rare gam. I would really like to see
that stupid end screen though! I had an alert on eBay for years and
years, but it never showed up....until recently. I thought for sure I'd
get it...who the hell wants a copy of U.I.M.?

I was wrong, the price went way higher than I was expecting, and I got
sniped. I guess I underestimated how much vintage game collectors are
willing to spend, I had no idea!

I guess I'll have to wait for someone to upload a copy to archive.org!

The Archimedes Software Preservation Project has a copy:
https://forums.jaspp.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=103&p=751&hilit=uim#p751

Publisher The Fourth Dimension is still operating (as a brand of dealer CJE
Micros) so seems plausible there would be a route to releasing it.

Perhaps worth asking on the JASPP forum what the status is?

Thanks, I'll do that, couldn't hurt to let them know there's interest!
