Title: Painful.

Review: I hate to break the 5-star pattern for this book but it is the most reader unfriendly professional book I have ever year (and I have read many). The type is small, the leading is tight and many paragraphs are long and dense. It is certainly comprehensive but also very repetitive. The same material is covered over and over with additions here and there that make you wonder why that was mentioned the 1st time around or why you have to read it again. There are many long lists of citations in parentheses in the middle of sentences that require going back to the beginning of the sentence reading it again and trying to connect up with the rest of the sentence. End notes would be a much better solution to this.
There are many useful worksheets, summary charts and references to screening instruments. But I find reading this book to be a painful experience. My eyes glaze over and my head spins. Reading for extended period of time leaves me feeling nauseous and gives me a headache. I wondered if this were only me so I tested it with a few others and they also found it off-putting. Since they weren't as motivated as I am to plow through this material, they simply lost interest. I am determined to complete this book but UGH!!! It will take a long time.

Title: Painful.

Review: I hate to break the 5-star pattern for this book but it is the most reader unfriendly professional book I have ever year (and I have read many). The type is small, the leading is tight and many paragraphs are long and dense. It is certainly comprehensive but also very repetitive. The same material is covered over and over with additions here and there that make you wonder why that was mentioned the 1st time around or why you have to read it again. There are many long lists of citations in parentheses in the middle of sentences that require going back to the beginning of the sentence reading it again and trying to connect up with the rest of the sentence. End notes would be a much better solution to this.
There are many useful worksheets, summary charts and references to screening instruments. But I find reading this book to be a painful experience. My eyes glaze over and my head spins. Reading for extended period of time leaves me feeling nauseous and gives me a headache. I wondered if this were only me so I tested it with a few others and they also found it off-putting. Since they weren't as motivated as I am to plow through this material, they simply lost interest. I am determined to complete this book but UGH!!! It will take a long time.
