Is anyone using this program? It's a year since I have. The auction ends
at about 8.20pm. I have clicked on 'place snipe' and put a figure in. Do
I have to do anything else?
Thanks (my annual attempt to use eBay before I give up in fury for
another year)

I use it quite a lot. I tend to put my snipe a bit closer than the
default, but no, you dont have to do anything else

Thanks - well,i lost the auction anyway, as i was outbid. I really hate
ebay and auctions!
I'm now wondering whether to ebay some of these designer-ish clothes i
have here
I use it loads, been pretty successful with it. I've got it set to
snipe 15 secs prior to auction close.
If you've got the auction listed with a price against it in
Jbidwatcher you don't need to do anything else, assuming you've logged
into eBay correctly in JBidwatcher (there's a check login status
button somewhere)
If you're selling a lot of stuff I can recommend GarageSale. It's not
free, but it does make it very easy to create pretty looking auctions
very quickly, and reuse templates etc. Gut feeling is that the stuff
I've sold using this has sold better as the advert looks prettier...
(if you search ebay for "Canon LV-S1E" or item number 250532954248
you'll find an auction for an LCD projector I'm selling that I used GS
to create, as an example)

Too long! I use 2 secs. Last second emotion bidders can easily outbid a
15 sec snipe.

If you were outbid, presumably whoever won it was prepared to pay more
than you were prepared to pay for whatever it was.
The path to satisfaction in ebay bidding is to decide the amount which
you are happy to pay to get the item, and not happy to pay more than.
Place that bid, forget. If somebody outbids you, their balance of money
vs item was in a different place from yours. Nobody can "outsnipe" you,
because your bid was in first so takes priority.
Be at peace, desire only creates unhappiness. Want for nothing, is not
the same as wanting nothing. Or nothing wanted. Want not, not want.
And similar pointless and irritating aphorisms. Grasshopper.

Thanks - interesting. I have mainly clothes to sell = and there are a
lorra lorra clothes on there.
I second the garagesale as I use it alot. Not only does it make your
auctions prettier, but I think probably more importantly it makes it
much easier to use your own hosting accounts for pictures. Most of us
have some form of webspace with our ISPs, or if not, if you are doing
enough auctions it will soon pay for itself, I upload all my auction
pics now at 800x600 pixels and bung in as many pictures as required, and
don't have to pay ebay anything over the basic listing fee for all these
supersized images. Saves me around at least 1 an auction.

Hey Pd, you're missing the point of sniping! Not everyone is rational
when they see the bids increasing. The value they place on the item
increases above what they were previously prepared to pay. If this
didn't happen, sniping would be pointless.
The point of sniping is that by not placing any bids until the last
second, people who bid emotionally do not get the chance to get carried
away, and their maximum bid will be what they are really willing to pay
while not in a bidding frenzy. This increasing the chance of the sniper
having the highest bid, and decreases the final price, on average.
Actually, having just checked, I use 3 secs. I've never had a problem
with it not getting through.
Indeed. So the pleasure of sniping is that you set the amount you are
prepared to pay, and a week later you get an email telling you if you
won it or not!

Thanks for mentioning that application - I had no idea this sort of
thing existed! :-)
I used to do my sniping manually.

Well, jbidwatcher _does_ need to be running on your computer, and your
computer _does_ need to be online, for the snipe to be executed. That
is, it runs locally.
If you want to completely set-and-forget, and not even have to remember
to leave your computer running with sleep disabled overnight or whenever
when necessary for jbidwatcher sniping, there is another solution:
<http://www.auctionsniper.com>
where you lodge your snipes with an online service and they execute the
snipes from their own servers on your behalf. This service costs 1% of
the final price for successful snipes only (first three successful
snipes are free), with a minimum commission of $0.25 and a maximum
commission of $9.95.
Personally, I use jbidwatcher.

The last bit is important - the first time I used it the computer went to sleep
and we lost out as the bid was never entered.
