I have installed Sheepshaver on a MacBook 2 GHz intel Core 2 Duo running
OS 10.5. Sheepshaver is running Mac OS8.6 which came off the original
installation discs of a 5500.

I have set up theTCP/IP connection as Ethernet / DHCP Server.

A browser (iCab) runs correctly and has access to the Web (with Ethenet
connected but AirPort switched off), but Chooser cannot see a couple of
PostScript printers on the Ethernet network or connect to a beige G3 (OS
8.6). (Both machines have File Sharing switched on.)

The G3 can see both printers but cannot see the MacBook in the Chooser,
although it can see it in "Fetch" and will FTP to it quite happily.

I have transferred a copy of the printer description file for one of the
printers to the Extensions P.D.F. folder of the Sheepshaver system, but
it does not show up in Extensions Manager or the Chooser. I tried
Stuffing it, in case it was losing its Resource Fork in transit, but
that made no difference.

Does anyone have any experience of Sheepshaver and can explain what is
happening?

I have some experience with SheepShaver and Basilisk, but my prnter has
no OS9 or OS7 drivers anyway - so I can't really help you.

However, while I can use the Internet quite happily via Ethernet with
both emulators, I cannot get them to use an Airport/WiFi connection. Is
this normal?

Fortunately, I don't normally need to do this anyway, but it's a little
niggle…

Adrian-

Don't you have to have AppleTalk enabled for printing and file sharing
to work?

I think so, although I haven't spotted anything about that in the
Sheepshaver instructions. When I tried to turn it off, it warned me
that it was being used by File Sharing.

Adrian-

If Sheepshaver goes through OS X to get to the network, then you may
need to have AppleTalk enabled in OS X Network Preferences.

Also, your router must be capable of passing AppleTalk. Some do not.

I've checked that it is switched on in the Appletalk pane of system
prefs.

These machines and printers are all hooked up to an Ethernet hub. There
is a router hung off the hub, but the links to the printers don't go
through it.
