I cleaned all my media cache files both from premiere (Edit > Preferences > Media Cache > Delete Unused) and from the actual file where there where saved on my pc (Find the location from going to Edit > Preferences > Media Cache and under Media Cache Files you can see the Location path). This was actually so easy to do and solved my problem straight away! Who would have thought! I saved a copy of the Media Cache folders before deleting their content on my desktop just to make sure if anything went wrong I would just copy what is needed back. I would recommend people to do the same and maybe delete after you make sure your projects work just fine!

okay, so i recently bought premiere pro and all the other apps that come with the new black friday deal. I worked with premiere pro on my school's computer and finally downloaded it onto my macbook air. I'm not super good with technology but i noticed that the premiere pro on my mac book looks like an older version than the one used at my school. It won't let me open school projects. anyone know what's up?

Hi, Im not been able to open my project in all the versions. I saved my project on premiere pro cc 2015 and I'm trying to open on my notebook with the same version but I receive a message saying that the project was saved on a newer version but wasn't.

Why can't they just have made it like word when they let you save it as older versions? Amazing that adobe didn't think this scenario through. I feel like the more I update the products the buggier they become after CS6.

Its Jan 2017 and I face the same issue. My work computer has Adobe premiere 2016. Computers in our dorms have Adobe premiere 2015. Can't open the damn files. Great work Adobe! I am glad I only took monthly subscription.

I need to export several videos from Premiere to a Media Encoder as a queue. When I got to export to Media encoder it says its not installed. I do have a version installed, but it doesn't recognize it for some reason. I have Adobe Premiere CC9.0 installed (I don't have the newest version because my graphics card doesn't support it) which version of Media Encoder do I need so they work in conjuction? All premiere says is "there isn't a media encoder installed". What it needs to say is what specific version I need of Media Encoder so they can work together as they should. Fix this Adobe! Or even better, Premiere recognized and works with any version of Media Encoder you have installed.

Hello People, im having a problem with the adobe creative cloud and premiere... It is only showing me the version 14.9 (previous) and the current (v15), both have a bug (many people experiencing the same, as far as i saw..), when you scrub on the timeline, you get random frames jumping like crazy.. It worked fine on the previous version i had (v14).. so a couple a days ago i installed version 14 and it worked fine again, but i forgot to disable the autoupdate and it auto installed the V15 again, so im having ths problem again, it may seem like a silly problem, but i can't watch the 8 hours of shooting in realtime (or worse, in slow motion) so i need to scrubb on the timeline.... so the problme now is (i dont know WHY) i can't see the previous version anymore, except the version 14.9, still with the bug.. is there a way i can download V14 or roll back the adobe cloud app to a previous version?.. a couple of days ago i was able to see all the previous version of premiere, now i can only see those two... any ideas?!?!?!

as a last resort you could export an xml file and then import it back into premiere. At least your edits would be there if not your effects, etc. But first tell us why you need to revert to an earlier version of premiere and tell us what version of premiere your project is currently in and which version you want to downgrade to. If you're talking about a premiere 2020 project, there are multiple earlier versions of 2020 still available that might allow you to overcome what ever issues you're having.

So when I was editing, I accidentally deleted half of my video and I didn't know so my project Autosaved and couldn't undo it to get the video files back. I was hoping you can open previous versions of your adobe premiere pro and go back to your project before 1-2 autosaves

My team has been working out of a Production workflow with a large number of organized and individual projects in it. We have been working inside of v15.xx and we decided to update to v22.0 when that released to be able to use some of the new features. When trying to open any project in the production in the new version of premiere we get this message:

"The projects in this production were saved from a previous version of Premiere and must be converted. A Copy of the production will be created for the conversions. The original production will not be modified."

When we choose to convert a window with "preparing for upgrade" appears with a bar and we have yet to have anything successfully happen (Premiere hangs and crashes quickly here) and a very small fraction of the projects are converted and there is no new production for the new version of Premiere to open..

Has there been issues with converting productions to the new version or is there a workaround possibly?

Thank you

I figured it SHOULD be a straightforward task, so I'm definitely tryint to gather as much information as possible to figure it out. Worst case I can take the time to create a new production entirely and import and convert a few hundred projects individually. I have the time to do it, but of course would rather not.

Consulted the supplementary PDF also, thank you for the link. Had everyone close out of premiere and all projects. I went through the production tab and made sure that ALL projects were closed out of and also found a handful of prlock files still around from projects that weren't open and haven't been touched. Got rid of all of those. Attempted again as the only editor to have premiere open on the team's network and had the same crash happen and had only a portion of the projects placed into a new folder.

Did more digging and found that one of our editors didn't follow directions we set early on and was placing video and other assets in folders inside the AP folder structure and not outside that folder structure in asset folders we set up. Could that be where it's hanging up during conversion??

THANK YOU for the help guys, I really appreciate the attention to this.

Not reeeeeally. At least - it's much less than the current accepted answer on this thread. If you export something as an xml file on premiere you will effectively lose most of the editing you've done. Aside from maybe the most basic sequences. All the colour correction, Sound work, etc is gone. With this method - yes some of that will disappear if you are working on an old enough version of premiere. But, I'm talking like five years old. If the difference is CC2017 and CC2016. Sure you'll lose any effects that only exist in CC2017. But I would bet this is mostly niche stuff and 99.999% of your project will probably be fine! But - even if it isn't - say you make some small changes to your downgraded version on CC2016. If you copy the downgraded version to a computer with CC2017, after the changes have been made. All the newer features will still be there. So as long as you render on the computer with CC2017 nothing will be lost.
