Am I missing something or does iTunes 7 try to get the artwork for all
the albums rather than just the ones you have highlighted?

If you have "Download missing artwork" ticked in Options, yes.

Or both. I read about Chessboxing on a plane a while back and thought
it was made up for a bit. Apparently it's a real sport(?) with
alternate bouts of -- yes -- chess and boxing.
