Canon printer TR7550

Whenever I print - it doesn't matter what document it is - I can see
"Media & Quality" section with the Draft/Normal/Best slider, but I can
never select "Draft" the
slider just bounces back to "Normal". "Best" works.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Anyone? Draft mode works ok on windows, but not via the print dialogue on
the Mac. I've installed to official driver from canon but it refused to do
draft mode.

Same here. I'd also like to hear an explanation, or - better still - a
solution.

In article <202003292344...@domain.com>,
Chris & Hans-

My guess is that a font to be printed does not have a Draft mode.

Try a simple text document. One at a time, change the font to each of
several and see if Draft mode can be selected for any of them.

I created a short text in Pages but none of the fonts that I tried
(including Courier, Times New Roman, Geneva, Arial, admittedly I did
not try all that are available) would allow printing in draft mode.

OK, what solved the problem for me is the advice given by jfredsilva in
the Canon forum
https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Printer-Multifunction-Support/Pixma-TR8520-won-t-print-draft-with-Mojave-Apple-and-Canon-can-t/m-p/272832/highlight/true#M31721.

I removed the AirPrint driver in Printers & Scanners and replaced it
with the Canon driver for the Canon MG7100 series (I have a Canon
MG7150). Instead of a slider there is now a Print Quality drop-down
menu including High Standard Draft and Custom. The Custom option is
superfluous since selecting it results in a slider of which only 3 out
of 5 positions are selectable, corresponding with High, Standard and
Draft.

That's really great Hans, thanks!

Arrgghh... "improve the user experience" my arse!

It stops users having to load any shovelware from printer manufacturers,
so I'd say that's a huge improvement in the user experience right there.

Maybe, but when the default options are broken with no recourse for an
alternative solution that's definitely a worse situation. Printer ink is
expensive so being able to print in draft is definitely something a lot
of people would like to do.

Well that's just an annoying bug, but all software has bugs. How much
less ink does draft mode use?

A two-second Google found this:
<https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Printer-Multifunction-Support/Canon-TS8150-No-Draft-print-option-in-OS-X/td-p/241483>

Are you sure that draft mode on Windows actually does anything? I
wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the Windows driver has the
option present simply to stop people ringing them up and complaining.

Best question so far.

I never print a draft. All proofing is done on the computer screen and
no paper or ink is wasted.

Maybe so, but my use case is different to yours. My prints are mainly
for personal usage so printing in draft is not a big deal and is for
reading not proofing.

Yes. It's a very noticeable difference between draft, standard and high.
So the functionality exists both in hardware and software, yet is not
supported by the default Apple Airprint drivers. Not impressed!
