Wanted to do this last night for a bit of fun on FB.

So I had about 5 seconds of a 4K movie I wanted as an animated gif.
The cluncky but easiest way I found was to screen capture
about 15 frames of the movie to files then croping with preview, then loading them into keynote where I had more control over the fps wanted about 10fps.

I haven;t got PS but I think that could do it, affintity photo or desginer can't
Tried an on-line converter mov to animated gif but the annoying ads and no real options I gave up and did the above.

Anyone else have a prefered method, although I may not want to do it again for a few months.

I wonder if Graphic Converter could do this? Have to look...

Yes, according to the manual anyway. Haven't tried it though.

In article <312f1c85-43e8-4d4b...@googlegroups.com>,
at last count, there's 6.53 bazillion apps that can do that, including
both online and native. a quick search will find some (but not all) of
them.

FYI 'GIFs' as used on FB, Twitter, etc aren't really
something.gif files these days. 'GIF' just means short, possibly-looped,
video.

I think if you generate video you can share that - eg Giphy takes .gif, .mov
and .mp4. So regular video editing tools should be able to do what you
want, although I'm not sure how to make things loop.

If you want to make a website like it's 1999 then I suppose you do want an
animated .gif, but that's probably unlikely.

That's what I did , but most had restrictions like wtermarks or it kept bonbarding me with ads and click boxes.
Others still didn;t give me the options I wanted like lower FPS 8-12, even keynote minium was just under 24fps.

which is what I want.
And that I want it slow/interupted/jerky.

Think I tried that but I still don;t want 30 or 60 fps.

More like 1997 when I used to do it using graphic converter 'hand' colouring pixels
and about 10 frames.

Best way I can describe it is I want to convert a small section of a band playing on stage
but not in 64 bit or 4 k but to look like old 8 bit computer graphics
maybe 256 colours low res but still identifible like the little space invaders were
on thos mid 1980s arcade games.

Yes it does: has done since at least v5. Save As ... select (eg) JPG,
then in the dialogue, click Save, and another set of options opens up
(eg how many frames do you want to save).

You should buy GraphicConverter (whiskydave) - it's one of the greatest
survivors of the 90s Shareware culture; it's constantly updated, and
it's one of the most powerful applications I use these days; but it's
still dirt cheap. But you can try it free. Get it from Thorsten Lemke
himself: https://www.lemkesoft.de/en/lemkesoft

I use this site to make short animated gifs for a website. You can
downrate the frame rate to as low as 5 and select the portion of the
video you want.

what shortcuts app ?

I don't like using my phone for such things, I prefer keyboards and mice and a large screen.

It’s the shortcuts app on the iPhone…

As far as I can see the desktop sibling app, Automator, doesn’t seem to
have an easy option to do this.

As a regular user, I tend to voice my opinion if I dislike something. It's not necessary for the modder to personally like the users. Instead, if they want to improve their product, they should consider the facts and feedback provided. It doesn't matter whether the feedback comes from a polite or a rude user.
