Odd one though - didn’t show as an update for me. I went straight from the
link on an article I read and there it was.
<https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997>

Advice is delete the old one first if you have it, otherwise the old one
remains in /Applications/WhatsApp.app and the new one installs itself into
/Applications/WhatsApp/WhatsApp.app. If you delete ye olde one, then you end
up with just /Applications/WhatsApp.app as you’d expect.

Means I’m down to one application I run regularly that’s Intel -
Hogwasher.

Cheers,
Ian

Just seen it - missed it somehow. I’m running it, it’s pretty much
identical from what I can see. My usage is relatively light - standard
messaging, the odd photo, the odd phone call. All basically the same.

Cheers,
Ian

Actually it seems a little better. Previously dragging pictures from the
Photos app into the messaging window would often fail, since it just took the
raw file and ended up with a .heic attachment it didn’t know what to do
with. Now it seems to convert things properly and work.

Just Discord to go then, which also still forces me to drag an image to the
desktop and then drag it into the messaging window, as opposed to drag and
drop directly from Photos itself.

Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian

To check... what version of WhatsApp have you updated to?

I have reverted to Version 2.2343.57 for the time being - deleted the
new one so not sure of version number - but it was definitely different
- I "think" it was .58

Cheers JohnB

Version 23.23.78 (534135772)

It’s definitely laid out differently, and some odd choice around not being
able to change default sound etc., but in practice it’s operating exactly
the same for me but with the addition of being compatible with dragging
photos into it.

Ian

What I didnt like was when I copied photos (screenshots, etc)they were
huge - took up the entire width of the message ! I am guessing there is
a way to correct that but I couldnt find it. The useless left hand pane
was a distraction too.

I may give it another go after another update corrects some of the
issues being discussed on reddit

Not a big deal really

Cheers JohnB
