Well just got 64mb from crucial and have it installed. But it doesn't seem
to be recognised on start up. Need some help! (Hopefully before I go to bed)

Cheers.

P.S. Toshiba Sat 2510CDS P266 32mb RAM)

All I can think of is :

1. The memory module is not seated properly.

2. You've got the wrong type of SO-DIMM. You're machine will ONLY work
with 3.3volt EDO memory. So, SD-RAM or 5.0volt EDO won't work.

If you told Crucial the make and model of your laptop, they should have
matched it up with the correct type of memory.

Hello, Euan from RCT here.

It could also be that your laptop is configured to only use symmetrical
memory (ie if you have 32MB in one slot, you have to have 32MB in another).
Also as Alex mentions, check that the memory is of the right type, I
remember a time when I ordered the right memory, but they delivered the
wrong type, labelled as the right type...I asked for 128MB SODIMM, got 64MB
EDO. They replaced it no problem though.

Or you could have knackered the memory while installing it...static is a
dangerous thing, always touch a metal part of the laptop while installing
(to ground yourself and discharge the static).

Hope that helps

Euan.

It seems to be the right thing. And the laptop can take an upgrade off 32 /
64 / 128. I touched metal to ground myself too.
Any other ideas of what to do?

Try it without the original memory, in the slot the old memory was in and
see what happens.

Apparently Toshibas are a pain for memory upgrades.

You seem to be the second person who has ordered from crucial and had
problems.

I myself have a satellite 2610 and have ordered 128mb mem from opus.co.uk
for £40. should be here thursday, i will let you know how i get on.

Hello again, Euan from RCT here.

Have you tried all the Troubleshooting Tips in the Crucial Manual? Best bet
is to take it out, restart the system to make sure it works then try again.
Also make sure it is EXACTLY the same type as your other memory...it's
always the little things that screw the system up!

As mentioned in the manual, you may have to manually reconfigure your memory
settings in the BIOS...

Well the trouble shooting tips don't include it not being recognised at all.
I will take it out, restart then re-install and restart. The only original
memory is soldered in.

How can I get into the BIOS on this machine?

Hit the ESC key whilst powering up. But I doubt you'll find any memory
settings in the BIOS if its typical of the Toshiba machiens I've seen.

Doh!

It wasnt opus.co.uk I ordered my memory from for my Tosh Satellite 2610, it
was www.orcalogic.co.uk !

Not sure about the video memory, but looking at your spec machine (Sat Pro
4280) on www.orcalogic.co.uk, a 128mb upgrade will set you back £33.80 +
Vat.!

The original memory is soldered in place.

suspect you've been shipped an SO DIMM whereas you need
EDO.

Hmmm. SODIMM describes the physical format the memory comes in. EDO
decribes the chip technology.

Hello again, Euan from RCT here.

Your right, I made the same mistake myself earlier, what the chap meant was
that you may have been shipped SDRAM as opposed to EDO.

Always read the label and when it still makes no sense, match up the
individual chips...

fairey nuff.

suspect he's been shipped PC100 SO-Dimm whereas the Tosh
needs 3.3V EDO SO-Dimm.

Ok guys,

Surprisingly I got my Tosh Satellite 2610 128mb memory upgrade this morning.
Opened up the packet and installed memory. Started up the machine and hey
presto! Now got 192mb ram!

Got from www.orcalogic.co.uk and cost £40 inc vat.

Very pleased with the service from the supplier and also no problems with
the goods.

Glad i didnt buy from Crucial now, after all the probs people have been
having. Thoroughly recommend www.orcalogic.co.uk.

Both the memory upgrades Crucial sent me for my Tosh Satellite 2800-500 were
incompatible, give them a ring and get a refund. They told me Toshibas can
be very fussy, I've got a Kingston part on order I'll let you know how I get
on!

Well that one didn't work either so I rang Toshiba UK. According to them
the Satellite 2800-500 can only be upgraded to 256Mb and not 384Mb as it
states in the manual!!!!!!
