How do I get rid of Google Toolbar? I remove the add-in from Firefox but
when I restart Firefox the dang fing re-installs itself.

Still came back. I even tried removing both from the internal uninstall
and in the add-ons section of firefox, arrrg!
At least if I disable Page Ranking it stops crashing the bloody thing.
