Yes there are many other tools that basically do the same thing.
You can erase or change a password using them but not recover an
existing password.
In other words if you use one of these on a machine at work the person
who used to access the machine will be able to tell that someone broke
into the machine and changed the password.
If/when I need one of these to reset a relatives machine for them I make
sure I download it from a reputable company like CNET or one of the
other long established companies that offer downloads. Don't download
from sites you don't know as the program they provide can just as easily
change the password for you AND install a backdoor virus.
There are many freeware versions of these programs on download sites
like
filehippo.com,
majorgeeks.com, and
cnet.com among others so there
is no reason to pay money to run a program you will most likely only
need once or twice a year.
