I'd like to start with a big 'thank you' to Rainer Scherg and others
involved for dvbsnoop. Not only for the program/package itself, but for it
being a nice example of the value of open source! Now on to my question...

I'm trying to write my own 'pid sniffer' to examine the DVB T/T2 transport
streams I've recorded so I can puzzle out why some behave differently to
others. I've got as far as being able to decode the PAT and use that to
find and decode the PMTs at the 'first level'. This means I can get the
included values for the stream types and the bytes for the their
descriptors, etc.

However converting those into a meaningful form is another matter.

e.g. One thing to know a PMT given stream type is, say, '27'. Something
else to know what kind of stream that actually *is*.

I've made some progress with this on the "stand on the shoulders of others"
basis. i.e. I compare with dvbsnoop and ensure that gives the same values,
and then see what it reports. I've also found the section of the source
code for dvbsnoop that lists the strings which explain in human language
what each stream type value corresponds to.

However despite looking I can't find an up-to-date official list of the
form like

0x11, "ISO/IEC 14496-3 Audio with LATM transport syntax as def. in ISO/IEC
14496-3/AMD1"

or

0x1B, "AVC video stream as defined in ITU-T Rec. H.264 | ISO/IEC 14496-10
Video

for *all* the *currently* defined PMT stream types. (Ditto for other
types). And I assume dvbsnoop may be out of date since I'm trying to
examine some of the odder T2 transmissions the BBC made recently.

I have lots of ETSI and other docs from DTG and these cover a lot of the
fields that associate with the above. But no top level list of types of the
kind I need.

So, can anyone point me at a suitable list?

Cheers,

Jim

Those seem to be from the mpeg2 transport stream spec pdf p65
