Every now and then I get the following error message: "A required.DLL file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFC42LOC.DLL was not found". In most cases (but not
always) the printer refuses to print. Restarting the computer usually fixes
it, but I would like to know how fix it permanently. It started shortly
after upgrading to Windows 98 SE.

First thing you need to do is check that the file exists, then check the
date and the version number. When you installed the printer drivers does
this file get overwritten, if so get the most up to date drivers off the
internet for your printer. You could also try searching the Microsoft web
site for the latest version of MFC42LOC.dll file and download the latest
version.
